Since the first tournament was held in 1974, up to now, more than 50 years with 49 tournaments, only one tournament could not be held due to the Covid-19 pandemic (2021), the Hanoi Moi Newspaper Run - For Peace has become a familiar name to many generations of people in the capital. Every year, the race attracts a large number of people from all districts, towns and cities to participate. From 2018 to now, the Olympic Running Day for the health of all people has been associated with the Launching Ceremony of the Hanoi Moi Newspaper Run - For Peace, aiming to spread the Olympic sports spirit, while promoting the movement of physical exercise in general, and running in particular in Hanoi.

According to Deputy Director of Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports Pham Xuan Tai, Hanoi sports are always in the top group of the country in terms of high achievements. At regional, continental and international tournaments, the achievements of the capital's athletes have contributed significantly to the overall achievements of Vietnamese sports, with the medal rate and number of participating athletes always accounting for 30% or more. Among them, many excellent athletes of the capital have grown up from grassroots sports, including the Hanoimoi Newspaper Run - For Peace. Every year, the Olympic Running Day for the Health of the People and the Launching Ceremony of the Hanoimoi Newspaper Run - For Peace are successfully organized by the Hanoimoi Newspaper and the Hanoimoi Newspaper.

Most recently, in 2024, 100% of districts, towns and cities organized the Olympic Running Day and launched the Hanoi Moi Newspaper Run - For Peace, attracting more than 350,000 participants. This shows that grassroots sports have been deeply rooted in the cultural and spiritual life of the people, creating a strong momentum for Hanoi to develop high-performance sports.

“The mass sports events, including the Olympic Running Day and the launch of the Hanoi Moi Newspaper Run - For Peace, will contribute to the city's goal of reaching 43.5% of the population participating in regular physical exercise by 2025. This is also the basis for assessing the quality of physical exercise in schools, agencies, units, businesses, etc. In particular, the run has the meaning of peace, so it has attracted many friendship organizations and embassies of many countries to participate in response,” said Mr. Pham Xuan Tai.

According to Dao Quoc Thang, Head of the Department of Physical Education and Sports Management (Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports), the Hanoi Moi Newspaper Run is not only a purely sports tournament but also a basis for assessing the situation of sports training in schools, agencies, units and enterprises. Therefore, the tournament has had a long-lasting vitality and always received the attention of units, attracting a large number of people to participate. Organizing the tournament is always one of the important annual tasks of the Department.

Prepare actively and thoughtfully

According to Deputy Director of Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports Pham Xuan Tai, the launching ceremony of the Olympic Running Day for the health of all people, the 50th Hanoi Moi Newspaper Run - For Peace 2025 will take place at 7:30 am on March 23 at Ba Kieu Temple Flower Garden and around Hoan Kiem Lake. To date, preparations for this event have been basically completed.

It is expected that more than 4,000 people will participate. In particular, the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports directed the Hanoi Sports Training and Competition Center under the Department to mobilize nearly 1,500 athletes and coaches to run in response. The Department has assigned responsible officers to coordinate with relevant departments, branches and sectors to carry out tasks as planned, prepare to organize the launching ceremony well; coordinate with Hanoi Moi Newspaper to deploy festive decorations and propaganda work.

Director of the Center for Culture, Information and Sports of Hoan Kiem District Nguyen Ngoc Ha said that the launching ceremony of the Olympic Running Day for the health of all people, the Hanoi Moi Newspaper Run - For Peace, 2025 will take place on Sunday, in the walking space area of ​​Hoan Kiem Lake and its vicinity, so there will be a lot of people participating. Hoan Kiem District has closely coordinated with the Hanoi City Police, the Department of Health and the Department of Transport to regulate traffic, avoid congestion, and ensure the health and safety of athletes and people participating in the race.

Since the beginning of March 2025, districts, towns and cities across the city have simultaneously implemented the Olympic Running Day plan and the 50th Hanoi Moi Newspaper Run - For Peace. Currently, localities continue to select outstanding athletes to form teams to participate in the city-level running tournament taking place on September 28.

Up to now, 30 districts, towns and cities have developed plans and organized launching ceremonies at most grassroots units, communes, wards, towns and schools, thereby attracting over 350 thousand participants. This is a clear demonstration of the strong spread of the Olympic Running Day and the Hanoi Moi Newspaper Run - For Peace to the sports movement in the capital city of Hanoi.
