(Dan Tri) - The dream of Nguyen Tran Le Tam, the new valedictorian of the University of Information Technology (Ho Chi Minh City National University) is to create vivid game characters with elaborate effects.
Surprise and joy were the feelings of Nguyen Tran Le Tam when he heard that he became the valedictorian of the University of Information Technology's Competency Assessment method. With a score of 1,109/1,200, Le Tam was also the runner-up in the Competency Assessment exam organized by Ho Chi Minh City National University. "Compared to my friends, I started studying quite late, I only started in grade 12. I didn't expect the results to be too high, but I'm very happy and proud that my efforts have paid off," Tam shared. Valedictorian Nguyen Tran Le Tam (Photo: NVCC). Loving role-playing games, the new valedictorian chose software engineering with the desire to create vivid game characters with elaborate effects. Tam has been playing games for more than 4 years and always longs for the day when he can program and write useful lines of code. This is also the way the male student entertains himself after stressful hours of studying. "Games give me inspiration, but playing is playing, studying is studying. I always keep a balance, considering this as a motivation to harmonize my dreams and interests," Tam said. Tam began his review journey by collecting sample questions, familiarizing himself with the structure and estimating the time to do the test. With 150 minutes, Tam divided the language use part (30 minutes), the math, logical thinking and data analysis part (60 minutes) and the problem solving part (60 minutes). Tam said that when entering the exam room, it is difficult to avoid feeling nervous but he quickly regained his composure. The male student is most confident in the calculation and statistical probability questions, so he "answered quickly and concisely". According to Tam, this part includes the types that have been learned in school, mainly at the low level of understanding and application. "For questions that are too difficult and I have not found the answer, I choose the most reasonable answer and mark it to come back to check at the end of the test," Tam said. During the test, the new valedictorian assessed that the most difficult part was Vietnamese because the scope of knowledge is wide, including secondary school and many works outside the program, requiring a firm grasp of some main ideas such as rhetorical devices, methods of expression, language style, etc. "Keeping a relaxed spirit" is the motto that Le Tam applied throughout the process. According to Tam, if you put too much pressure, it will be counterproductive, so even though studying for the high school graduation exam in parallel with assessing your ability, the male student never felt overloaded or had difficulty balancing. The male student integrated "2 in 1", taking the basic knowledge of the high school graduation exam for assessing your ability, spending an extra 2 hours each day practicing the questions to master it. This is the "jump" that helped Tam increase from 989 points in the first round to 1,109 points in the second round. "Parts like English and natural sciences are not too difficult if you have a solid grasp of the basic knowledge. As for the social sciences part, the questions that come with the reading passage are easy to get points because the answers are in the passage. However, this part is at the end, so it is easy to get confused if you cannot manage your time. You should summarize the main ideas to avoid confusion," Tam shared his experience. The male student cherishes the desire to become a professional game programmer, personally creating a product that reaches the world. "Games are not just for entertainment, if developed in the right direction, they can go far and affirm the talent and intelligence of the programmer. I hope that in the future Vietnam will mark its name on the international map in the field of software technology," Tam expressed. As the homeroom teacher of the valedictorian for three years of high school, Mr. Le Tho Nhan, a teacher at Le Quy Don High School for the Gifted in Ninh Thuan Province, assessed that Le Tam had shown his talent early on when he was good at all subjects, especially math and English. Tam was also on the provincial team participating in the national math competition for many consecutive years. "He is proactive, has many ideas and creative thinking in difficult exercises, has a high sense of self-study and always learns from teachers and friends," the teacher shared. The teacher also added that the student is quite perfectionist, always setting clear goals in studying. Therefore, with his intelligence and spirit of always striving, Le Tam leads in scores in most subjects. Teachers and friends were not too surprised when he became valedictorian.
