Participating in 'Operation Mekong Dragon', Ho Chi Minh City Customs arrested 18 drug trafficking cases

Mr. Nguyen Van On, Deputy Director of Ho Chi Minh City Customs Department, said that since the implementation of the 5th phase of the campaign, Ho Chi Minh City Customs Department has detected and prevented 18 violations and most of them have been transferred to the police for further investigation according to their authority. Most recently, in a shipment exported to Australia in September, the city's customs force discovered that 36 bags of various types contained plastic bags with adhesive tape containing nearly 3.2 kg of heroin; discovered and seized nearly 4 kg of heroin hidden in the interior of a water purifier exported by air last October...

To avoid the strict control of the customs agency, the subjects used the same trick of exporting goods with hidden drugs to Singapore and UAE before going to Australia. Notably, the city customs said that they discovered a new type of drug which was a synthetic drug compound in powder form mixed with Methamphetamine, MDMA, Nimetazepam, packaged in grape juice (Crispy Fruit) and hidden between bottles of skin cream for export abroad.

The source of drugs discovered and seized by Ho Chi Minh City customs forces mainly comes from the "golden triangle" area, through Cambodia, Laos to border provinces, smuggled into Ho Chi Minh City for consumption, and hidden in warehouses in suburban districts. Drugs are disguised in goods, through companies established by the subjects, exported to Taiwan, Hong Kong (China), Singapore, Australia...
