Create safe crop production areas

Currently, Thai Nguyen has achieved positive results when increasingly expanding the area of ​​crops produced according to safe processes such as VietGAP and organic. By the end of 2024, the whole province will have over 5,900 hectares of tea, more than 110 hectares of rice, 200 hectares of vegetables meeting VietGAP standards; 120 hectares of tea meeting organic standards... However, this number is still quite modest compared to market demand.

People in Trai Cai tea area (Dong Hy) have applied VietGAP process to tea production to create safe products.

In fact, up to now, Thai Nguyen has not been able to create large-scale, safe crop production areas in the direction of goods. Meanwhile, promoting the expansion of safe crop production areas that meet GAP, organic, modern, and sustainable standards is an inevitable trend, towards a green, safe agriculture that protects the health of producers, consumers, and protects the ecological environment...

Ms. Ha Thi Dinh, Tien Phong hamlet, Khe Mo commune (Dong Hy) said: “Clean” production protects the first producers. We build our house right next to the tea hills, and eat and sleep with the tea plants every day. Therefore, the abuse of pesticides and plant growth stimulants directly affects the living environment and pollutes our domestic water sources.

Therefore, for more than 10 years now, my family has proactively applied the VietGAP process to tea production. Thanks to that, my family's tea products have been known to consumers in and outside the province, with stable prices ranging from 250,000 to 1 million VND/kg of dried tea buds. However, what I hope is that the relevant authorities have positive solutions to create large-scale safe tea production areas, avoiding fragmentation and each person doing their own thing as is currently the case... - Ms. Ha Thi Dinh

Ms. Dinh's wish is legitimate because small-scale, fragmented safe production cannot meet the needs of supplying agricultural products in the direction of goods and on a large scale. Accordingly, the application of scientific and technical advances to crop production also encounters many difficulties and lacks uniformity. For example, with rice production, when building large-scale fields, planting seeds at the same time, rice grows evenly, spraying pesticides to prevent pests and diseases, and using machinery to serve the harvest are also much more convenient... In particular, the situation of pathogens spreading and spreading widely is less likely to occur.

Currently, most tea producers in the province use sprinkler systems to improve production efficiency. This is an advantage for Thai Nguyen to build a safe crop production area.

Creating safe production areas also helps Thai Nguyen build a brand for agricultural products. At the same time, it attracts the participation of enterprises in the production and consumption of agricultural products for farmers; innovates production methods and food safety management, develops a concentrated commodity base, and gradually reduces small-scale and fragmented production.

To achieve this goal, Mr. Nguyen Ta, Head of the Provincial Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection, said: Improving the leadership and management capacity of the state management apparatus, changing management methods, promoting administrative reforms at all levels to improve efficiency in agricultural production, especially creating safe crop production areas, plays a very important role.

Along with that, Thai Nguyen's functional departments and agencies must effectively implement the province's policies on supporting the expansion of safe crop production areas applying VietGAP and organic standards; increasing the use of biological and organic fertilizers and pesticides; applying advanced, economical automatic and semi-automatic watering technology in crop production. In particular, further developing safe, organic agriculture with high-tech applications and digital applications in production on crops (tea, fruit trees, rice, vegetables, flowers, etc.) - Mr. Nguyen Ta emphasized.
