Bach Mai Hospital proposed to the Government to approve the policy of establishing Bach Mai University of Medicine and Pharmacy on the basis of upgrading Bach Mai Medical College.


According to Associate Professor, Dr. Dao Xuan Co, Director of Bach Mai Hospital (Hanoi), with the requirement to develop into a specialized medical facility, Bach Mai Hospital proposed to the Government to allocate investment funds to build new buildings and renovate some buildings that have deteriorated after more than 100 years of use; soon put Bach Mai Hospital 2 in Ha Nam into operation to reduce the load on facility 1; approve the policy of establishing Bach Mai University of Medicine and Pharmacy on the basis of upgrading Bach Mai Medical College...

Bach Mai Hospital has optimal conditions for training and practice when establishing a university.

In response to the proposals of Bach Mai Hospital, attending and speaking at the 70th anniversary of Vietnamese Doctors' Day (February 27) at Bach Mai Hospital (February 24), Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh requested Bach Mai Hospital to urgently develop a project, to be completed no later than the second quarter of 2025; in which, Bach Mai University of Medicine and Pharmacy will operate under an autonomous model, with initial support from the Government.

Speaking with Thanh Nien reporter, the representative of Bach Mai Hospital added: Bach Mai University of Medicine and Pharmacy, when approved, will be a place to train high-quality human resources, with the foundation of the hospital having a team of leading clinical experts participating in direct teaching; the hospital has conditions to help students acquire practical clinical knowledge, as well as opportunities to study with foreign experts and study in countries with developed medicine.

Most recently, Associate Professor, Dr. Vu Van Giap, Deputy Director of Bach Mai Hospital, Chairman of the Council of Bach Mai Medical College, was honored to be awarded the title of Honorary Associate Professor by the University of Sydney (Australia). Dr. Giap has made many contributions to the development of medicine domestically and internationally.

According to the leaders of Bach Mai Hospital, currently Bach Mai Hospital 1 in Hanoi has a scale of 3,600 beds, with 57 units, including Bach Mai Medical College. The hospital has built a human resource of more than 4,500 employees with nearly 1,000 staff with postgraduate qualifications; annually receiving an average of 2 million outpatients and nearly 200,000 inpatients. More than 10,000 diagnostic and treatment techniques at Bach Mai Hospital have been approved by the Ministry of Health, including advanced, specialized techniques and modern equipment systems at international standards. The latest techniques applying AI and new generation robotic surgery have been applied and expanded.
