Vietnamese farmers excel with the business principle of "no price pressure on farmers"
Mr. Nguyen Duc Menh, an outstanding Vietnamese Farmer of 2024 from Hai Duong, said: His company Tan Huong Agricultural and Food Processing Joint Stock Company is currently producing and trading over 30 vegetable and fruit products such as carrots, onions, garlic, chili, etc., fresh and dried. Mr. Menh's company is signing contracts with nearly 40 partners across the country and exporting to foreign markets such as Korea, Japan, Europe, etc.
According to Mr. Menh, to aim for sustainable exports and enhance brand value for key agricultural products, investing in cold storage systems and deep processing centers is essential.
Mr. Nguyen Duc Menh, an outstanding Vietnamese farmer in 2024 from Hai Duong, said: On average, his business purchases about 10,000 tons of carrots each year.
“For many years, exporting carrots to Korea and Japan has been our company’s strength. Currently, the company is cooperating with farmers to produce clean carrots on an area of nearly 100 hectares. During the carrot harvest season, the company buys an average of 150 tons of carrots and 25-30 containers of fresh carrots for farmers every day,” said Mr. Menh.
In the 2023-2024 crop year, outstanding Vietnamese farmer Nguyen Duc Menh purchased about 10,000 tons of carrots; of which 70% of the output was consumed domestically, 30% was exported to Japan, Korea, Thailand, China...
In addition to purchasing carrots, Mr. Menh's business also purchases onions, garlic, ginger, cinnamon... about 3,000 tons of onions and garlic; over 1,000 tons of radishes; over 3,000 tons of spices; over 3,000 tons of winter vegetables (cabbage, kohlrabi).
According to Mr. Menh, with such a large volume of agricultural products purchased, if businesses do not have cold storage to preserve agricultural products, it will be very difficult.
“The characteristic of Vietnam’s agricultural sector is seasonal harvesting. When the season comes, agricultural output will be very large. To avoid the refrain of “good harvest, low price”, investing in cold storage to preserve agricultural products is very necessary. For example, with carrots, if there is a cold storage, the preservation time will be extended to 6-8 months while the carrots will still be fresh and delicious, retaining their nutritional value,” said Mr. Menh.
Mr. Menh added: “The business principle of the enterprise is that we must not force farmers to pay higher prices when purchasing agricultural products. Therefore, investing in processing lines and cold storage for agricultural products is very important. We currently have 7 cold storage facilities with a capacity of about 600 tons of agricultural products; 1 frozen warehouse. When we have enough business capacity, the enterprise will cooperate in production and guarantee more agricultural products for farmers.”
Currently, the company of Excellent Vietnamese Farmer Nguyen Duc Menh has a vegetable processing area of all kinds and a factory area for classifying agricultural products using AI technology with an area of 800 m2; a carrot and root processing area of 800 m2, a cold storage warehouse, a frozen warehouse of 1,500 m2; an agricultural product drying area of 500 m2 (including 3 cold drying ovens, A&D microwave technology drying and infrared radiation drying); an executive office of 210 m2.
4 recommendations sent to the National Farmers' Forum in 2024

Outstanding Vietnamese farmer Nguyen Duc Menh said: To avoid the refrain of "good harvest, low price", investing in cold storage to preserve agricultural products is very necessary.
“This is a great opportunity for outstanding farmers and businesses like us to share difficulties and problems in the fields of agriculture, farmers and rural areas, to reflect, express our thoughts and aspirations, make recommendations and proposals to the Vietnam Farmers’ Union and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. Thereby, we can advise and propose specific solutions and policies to serve green and sustainable agricultural and rural production,” said Mr. Menh.
Expressing his thoughts and wishes to the President of the Vietnam Farmers’ Union and the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Outstanding Vietnamese Farmer Nguyen Duc Menh expressed: “I have 4 recommendations to send to the President of the Vietnam Farmers’ Union Luong Quoc Doan and the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Le Minh Hoan. To ensure production needs and expand production towards sustainable export, enhancing the brand value of Vietnam’s key agricultural products, the following 4 conditions are needed.
First: Planning to build areas of growing materials that meet standards, such as good quality and unpolluted water quality.
Second: Expand production scale, invest in modern machinery to meet production needs immediately after purchasing agricultural products from farmers. Build warehouses to preserve agricultural products that meet standards to store products after harvest.
Third: Replicating the direct production model from the raw material growing area to reduce transportation costs. Training staff and workers directly involved in production, with priority given to local people.
Fourth: Businesses like us want to access preferential loans to invest in factories and warehouses to meet the needs of purchasing after harvest and storing products after processing.
