Speaking to the press on the afternoon of March 3, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Phung Duc Tien said that agricultural, forestry and fishery exports in February reached 4.4 billion USD, an increase of 37% compared to February last year.
Thus, in the first two months, agricultural, forestry and fishery exports reached 9.38 billion USD, an increase of more than 8% over the same period last year.
Some items increased sharply, such as coffee, reaching 1.58 billion USD, up 26% in value, although export volume decreased 28%.
"This year, coffee exports are forecast to reach 6 billion USD, continuing to surpass the 2024 record (5.62 billion USD). Similarly, pepper, seafood, wood and wood products, and rubber all increased compared to the same period last year," said Mr. Tien.
In contrast to the growth of the above items, Mr. Tien said that the export value of vegetables, fruits and rice decreased by 11% and 13% respectively compared to the same period last year.
"Thus, we need to promote advantageous products. For export products that have decreased such as rice and vegetables, the ministry has a system of solutions to maintain growth momentum in the following months.
For example, the average export price of rice in February reached 553 USD/ton. Although it decreased compared to last year, the price started to increase in early March.
This year, we are expected to still export around 9 million tons of rice and the ministry will promote opening more markets to compensate for the decline in other markets, in order to maintain output and export value," said Mr. Tien.

Regarding solutions to achieve this year's export target, Mr. Tien said that from the beginning of 2025, the ministry determined that this year would face a trade war, especially after Mr. Donald Trump returned to power, there were policies to protect the domestic market as well as impact the markets of China and some countries.
"Currently, the US, Ukraine and Europe are hot issues, also affecting our country's agricultural, forestry and fishery exports.
We are also a partner with a trade surplus with the US market. Faced with this challenge, the ministry will have assessments to find appropriate solutions to ensure exports meet the Prime Minister's target of 64-65 billion USD and can strive to reach 70 billion USD," said Mr. Tien.
Thus, if this year's agricultural, forestry and fishery exports continue to reach the target of 70 billion USD, it will exceed the 2024 record by about 5 billion USD.
Average coffee price reached 5,574 USD/ton
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, the volume of coffee exports in February 2025 is estimated at 150,000 tons, with a value of 854 million USD, bringing the total volume and value of coffee exports in the first two months of 2025 to 284,000 tons and 1.58 billion USD, down 28% in volume but up 26% in value compared to the same period in 2024.
The average export coffee price in the first two months of 2025 is estimated at 5,574.5 USD/ton, an increase of 76% over the same period in 2024.
Germany, Italy and Japan are the three largest coffee consuming markets of Vietnam, accounting for market shares of 16.6%, 9.4% and 8.2% respectively.
Compared to the same period last year, the value of coffee exports in January 2025 to the German market increased by 53%, to the Italian market by 5.6%, and to the Japanese market by 10.4%.
Among the 15 largest export markets, coffee export value increased the most in the Polish market with an increase of 2.9 times, and decreased the most in the Algerian market with a decrease of 22%.
