Right after Tet, businesses in the garment, logistics, banking, etc. sectors all stepped up production and business activities to catch up with the economic recovery. Meanwhile, the real estate sector is catching up rather slowly.
According to the reporter of Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper, in Ho Chi Minh City, in addition to some projects that have been busy again, real estate trading floors have quite a few employees coming to work.
Talking to us, the leader of a real estate company said that after Tet, only about 60% of "full-time" brokers returned to work from the 6th day of the lunar calendar; 20% asked for Tet holiday until the 16th or 17th of the lunar calendar. Some people asked for leave to switch to other jobs.
Explaining the reason for the long Tet holiday for the brokers, the leader of this company said that the real estate market is still difficult, liquidity is very low, transactions only come from customers with real housing needs, few people buy for investment. Unlike previous years, customers are now very demanding, they require the real estate to have clear legal documents, the price must be cheap... so not all businesses and brokers can meet the requirements.
"Before Tet, many customers asked to find houses in Binh Thanh, Go Vap, District 3 for 4-5 billion VND or less, with a 6-7m wide street frontage or apartments in District 9 (now Thu Duc City) for 2-3 billion VND, but at the beginning of the year, it was quiet. In addition, there are not many such products at the moment, so brokers are discouraged. I have encouraged my colleagues by offering additional bonuses, but it has not improved" - this person said.

Mr. Nguyen Tat Thinh, founder of Housezy Joint Stock Company - specializing in providing real estate brokerage services, informed that the number of brokers returning to work after Tet is only about 30-40%. The rest have a long Tet holiday because the number of customers who want to buy a house at the beginning of the year is small, and they have no income from work, so they decide to take more time off or do other jobs.
"We don't have "full-time" employees, all are collaborators so they can be free with their time. Many brokers said they will take Tet holiday until the end of January due to the gloomy demand for real estate at the beginning of the year. Right after Tet, we had a few customers asking about houses priced at around 3-4 billion VND in Go Vap, Binh Thanh, Thu Duc but they mainly asked for prices. Hopefully in the near future, there will be an abundant number of customers and supply so that we can have more working spirit" - Mr. Thinh expressed.
A full-time real estate broker in Thu Duc City, Mr. Nguyen Duy Nhat, said he had returned to work since the 6th day of Tet. However, since then, he has not had any potential customers, so he is quite discouraged.
"I have been in the city for more than a week, contacted old customers to show them houses but they refused because they were busy with work at the beginning of the year. I contacted other customers but they all said they had no need. Many of my colleagues are still on Tet holiday, and are expected to return to the city to find customers by the end of February," said Mr. Nhat.
