Information from the Ministry of Health said that former Minister of Health Nguyen Quoc Trieu passed away at 5:00 p.m. this afternoon, January 24, in Hanoi.
Mr. Nguyen Quoc Trieu was born in 1951, from Bac Ninh province, and left Hanoi Medical University while he was a medical student to join the fight in the Quang Tri battlefield.
He later returned to school, became a medical doctor and held the positions of director of the Hanoi Department of Health, vice chairman and then chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee, minister of health from 2007 to 2012 and head of the Central Committee for Protection and Health Care of Officials until 2019.
According to a source from Tuoi Tre Online , before his death, former Minister Nguyen Quoc Trieu had been treated at Bach Mai Hospital since mid-2024 in a rather serious condition, but then his condition improved and before this Lunar New Year, he attended a meeting with former leaders of the Ministry at the Ministry of Health.
In 2022, Mr. Nguyen Quoc Trieu was awarded the 50-year Party membership badge. In 2019, when he was preparing to leave his position as head of the Central Committee for the Protection and Care of Cadres' Health, he was awarded the First Class Independence Medal.
During his tenure, Minister Nguyen Quoc Trieu played a major role in developing local health facilities. He was the Minister of Health during the pandemic of A/H1N1 influenza (2009) and the outbreak of acute diarrhea in many places (2007)... and successfully completed the task of leading the health sector in fighting the epidemic.
The funeral of the former minister will be held according to high-level funeral rites. The funeral will begin at 7:00 a.m. on January 26 at the National Funeral Home, No. 5 Tran Thanh Tong, Hai Ba Trung District, Hanoi.
