The person who enhances the value of cinnamon

Mr. Trieu Phuc Vay boldly built a local cinnamon purchasing and processing factory, so the value of cinnamon trees was increased.

After researching and learning from many places, in 2018, Mr. Vay discussed with some households in the village, invested more than 2 billion VND to build a factory, and established the Nam Det Organic Cinnamon Cooperative. Standing in to purchase raw materials, processing them into many products such as cinnamon sticks, cinnamon flutes, cinnamon essential oil... so the value of cinnamon trees in the locality has increased significantly. Mr. Trieu Phuc Vay, Director of the Nam Det Organic Cinnamon Cooperative, Bac Ha district shared: "We established a purchasing cooperative here for processing. Before the cooperative existed, the purchase price here was 20,000 VND/kg of fresh cinnamon, after establishing the cooperative, it increased to 27,000 - 28,000 VND/kg".

Initially, the Cooperative had only 6 members participating, with a total cinnamon area of over 120 hectares. Later, when the value of the crop was higher, the Cooperative expanded its association, building a raw material area of up to nearly 1,800 hectares, purchasing an annual output of 200-300 tons of cinnamon bark, creating jobs for 25 local workers. Mr. Ly A Lu, Nam Det village, Nam Det commune, Bac Ha district shared: "Before there was no cooperative, the income was low, now that there is a cooperative, cinnamon is sold better than before, processed here and is more effective".

Thanks to cinnamon planting, many families in the commune have stable economies, and the village and commune are increasingly developing.

Along with purchasing and processing, the cooperative also supports and guides people to grow and care for cinnamon in an organic way to increase the value of the product. Currently, the cinnamon products of the cooperative owned by Mr. Vay are all recognized as 3-star OCOP, earning a profit of 300 - 400 million VND/year. Mr. Trieu Phuc Vay, Director of the Organic Cinnamon Cooperative in Nam Det Commune, Bac Ha District, shared: "We have a place to produce and process here, we don't have to transport it far away, so the difference is very high. For example, fresh products are about 2,000 - 3,000 VND/kg, hundreds of tons a year, bringing in tens of billions of VND in profit for people".

The right direction along with the efforts and creativity of Mr. Trieu Phuc Vay has contributed to increasing the value of key crops in the area, ensuring the goal of sustainable production./.
