Loc Yen ancient village, located in Tien Canh commune, Tien Phuoc district, is located about 40km southwest of the center of Quang Nam province. The history of formation and natural and social conditions of the village are closely linked to the history of Tien Phuoc and Quang Nam.
In the 17th and 18th centuries, people from the North came to reclaim the delta, and by the mid-18th century, they migrated to neighboring areas such as Tien Phuoc. In that context, at the end of the Tay Son period, Mr. Nguyen Cong Tuyet and some clans brought their families and residents to Loc Yen to reclaim land and establish a village (Photo: Giang Nguyen).
Loc Yen village is located in the middle of a narrow valley with semi-mountainous terrain. People have taken advantage of the terrain to exploit natural stone to build banks, divide plots, and improve the slope of hill gardens, creating unique and distinctive features (Photo: Cong Binh).
Loc Yen ancient village has a total area of 275 hectares, houses lean against the mountainside, facing terraced fields, known as the land of "fairyland of blessings and fortune" (Photo: Cong Binh).
Due to the hilly terrain, people have long used stones to line both sides of the alley, creating sturdy stone fences around their gardens. This is a solution to keep the earthen banks from being eroded by rain and floods, and at the same time helps to divide the boundaries of the gardens in a natural and beautiful way (Photo: Ngo Linh).
In Loc Yen village, houses are built at the foot of the mountain, the entrance to the house is steep. People use stones to form steps to go up and down, houses with stone paths are cool in the dry season and warm in the winter because of high humidity. This is a very unique, rich and diverse art of stone arrangement (Photo: Giang Nguyen).
Loc Yen is considered a fairyland in the midland of Quang Nam. Here, people still preserve and maintain many ancient houses that are hundreds of years old. The ancient houses are made of jackfruit wood, designed with 3 rooms and 2 wings in the style of a traditional house. Each house is a work of art that carries the cultural value of this land (Photo: Cong Binh).
In September 2019, Loc Yen ancient village was ranked as a National Monument and recognized as one of the four most beautiful ancient villages in Vietnam, becoming a popular destination in the midland of Quang Nam (Photo: Giang Nguyen).
Many people call Loc Yen "Vietnam in miniature" because it is a place that brings together the beautiful landscapes of all regions of Vietnam. Loc Yen has terraced fields of the Northwest mountains, ancient villages of the North, fruit gardens of the South and rivers of the Central region (Photo: Giang Nguyen).
