Before his visit to Vietnam, Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva will visit Japan. This is the second time Mr. Lula da Silva has visited Vietnam.

According to the Brazilian President's website, President Lula da Silva's visit aims to identify joint actions and initiatives to realize the Strategic Partnership established by the two countries in November 2024 during Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's working trip to Brazil to attend the G20 Summit.

The Brazilian government assessed that upgrading diplomatic relations with Vietnam to a Strategic Partnership helps deepen political dialogue; strengthen economic cooperation; increase trade and investment flows; cooperate with each other at multilateral forums and promote new cooperation initiatives.

Since establishing diplomatic relations in 1989, Vietnam and Brazil have built a solid and comprehensive relationship on the basis of strategic trust and mutual understanding.

Brazil is the first South American country with which Vietnam has established a Strategic Partnership.

Brazil is Vietnam's largest trading partner in Latin America - a market with great potential, especially in the context of Vietnam promoting the diversification of markets and supply sources.

In 2024, Brazil and Vietnam recorded trade turnover of more than 7.5 billion USD. Vietnam has become the fifth global destination for Brazilian agricultural exports and has emerged as one of the world's leading producers of coffee, rice and electronic products, areas with potential for expanding bilateral cooperation.

The two countries strive to increase bilateral trade turnover to 10 billion USD by 2025 and 15 billion USD by 2030.

President Lula da Silva has deep affection for Vietnam (self-proclaimed "Vietnam Generation").

He is the first Brazilian head of state to officially visit Vietnam.

During his two previous terms as President, he focused on promoting cooperation with Vietnam in many fields such as economics, trade, science and technology, renewable energy, education and training; establishing a Comprehensive Partnership with Vietnam (2007) and upgrading the relationship to a Strategic Partnership (November 2024).
