Nam Du Island is an archipelago in Kien Hai District, Kien Giang Province, located about 83 km southwest of Rach Gia City. This is one of the pristine and beautiful tourist destinations in Southern Vietnam, famous for its clear blue sea, fine white sand beaches and rich ecosystem. Photo: NVCC
By chance, Phan Thanh Dat (26 years old, HCMC) learned about Nam Du Island through social networks and had a memorable 2-day-1-night trip here. "I am someone who likes to explore unspoiled places with natural landscapes, so I decided to come to Nam Du. This is also the time when Nam Du is in its most beautiful season, with golden sunshine, calm and blue sea, suitable for everyone to travel," the male tourist said. Photo: NVCC
The advantage of Nam Du compared to some other famous beaches is its wild, natural beauty, clear blue sea water where you can see fish swimming below. This place has not been exploited for tourism too much so the air is fresh and life is very peaceful. Photo: NVCC
The islanders are enthusiastic and hospitable. Wherever you go, whether you are familiar or unfamiliar, you will be talked to and helped. “I am most impressed by the sunset on the island. In the afternoon, the image of fishing boats returning, with the red sun setting behind, creates a peaceful and picturesque scene,” Thanh Dat shared. Photo: NVCC
In addition to the big island, Nam Du also has a system of small islands around it, of which Hon Lon (Cu Tron) is the largest island, with a dense population. Some other prominent islands include Hon Mau, Hon Dau, Hon Ngang, Hon Hai Bo Dap, each with its own beauty. Thanh Dat explored Hai Bo Dap island with 2 sea fronts and a small road in the middle, which is famous on social networks. Photo: NVCC
Kien Giang currently has 3 island communes without national grid electricity, including An Son, Nam Du (Kien Hai) and Tho Chau, with electricity only supplied 18 hours a day. Every day, Nam Du will have power outages and use generators, and islanders will also limit the use of high-power appliances such as air conditioners. The roads are easy to travel and necessities and fresh water on the island are still plentiful. Photo: NVCC
Before coming to Nam Du, Thanh Dat proactively sought information through social networking sites and local guides. He believes that if tourists intend to come to Nam Du, they need to prepare relatively good health because they need to travel a lot, the journey here is not like a resort at all. Besides, the island is still wild, so there will not be many entertainment spots and rich and diverse accommodation and restaurants. Photo: NVCC
Regarding costs, the male tourist said that the prices for food and hotels here are affordable and not too expensive: "Including the bus fare from Ho Chi Minh City to Rach Gia and 2 days on the island, I only spent about 2.6 million VND/person." Photo: NVCC
Thanh Dat affirmed that he will definitely come back here because he really likes the atmosphere and peaceful landscape of the island. In addition, he also plans to visit other islands in Vietnam such as Phu Quy, Ly Son, Hon Son... to explore all the wild beauty of Vietnam's nature. Photo: NVCC
