Da Nang residents build "dykes" in front of their houses to cope with storm Tra Mi

A coastal hotel also built a "dyke" of sandbags at the entrance to the basement to prevent heavy rain from flooding inside.

According to the forecast, from the evening and night of October 26 to the night of October 28, in the area from Quang Binh to Quang Ngai, there will be heavy to very heavy rain with total rainfall ranging from 300-500mm, locally over 700mm.

There are places like the South of Thua Thien Hue and Da Nang where it can rain 30mm/h for 3-4 hours continuously, which can cause flooding in low-lying areas.

In the Ton Duc Thang street area (near the Hue Intersection overpass), a low-lying area at risk of flooding during heavy rains, people have used hard plastic sheets to create a "dyke" to block water in front of their houses.

Mr. Tran Van Tu, in Thanh Khe district, said that, learning from the historic flood in October 2022, when he heard the forecast of heavy rain that could cause flooding, he quickly hired someone to erect aluminum pillars and bought plastic sheets to create a "dyke" higher than 1 meter in the hope of preventing water from flooding into his house.

A low-lying household on Ton Duc Thang Street hired a welder to build a sturdy metal "dyke" in front of its door on the afternoon of October 26.

Building a "dyke" with a wooden board over 1 meter high, Ms. Quynh (living in Lien Chieu district) said that since yesterday (October 25), her family went to buy materials to create the "dyke". This could be an effective way to prevent water from flooding into the house that local residents have been telling each other about.

Recorded in Hoa Khanh Nam ward (Lien Chieu district), from noon on October 26, the ward's functional forces went to households in low-lying areas to support raising valuable items.

The washing machine was lifted by the authorities using ropes to a high place, more than 2 meters above the ground.

According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, at 1:00 p.m. on October 26, storm Tra Mi (storm No. 6) was active in the sea north of Hoang Sa archipelago, about 440km east-northeast of Da Nang.

The strongest wind near the storm center is level 11-12, gusting to level 15. The storm moves in a West Southwest direction, at a speed of about 20km/h.

Due to the influence of the storm, the western sea area of ​​the North East Sea has strong winds of level 8-9, near the eye of the storm, winds of level 10-12, gusts of level 15; waves 5-7m high, near the eye of the storm, waves 7-9m high; rough seas.

The sea area of ​​provinces from Quang Binh to Quang Ngai (including Con Co Island, Cu Lao Cham, Ly Son) has strong winds of level 6-7, then increasing to level 8-9, the area near the storm's eye has level 10-11, gusting to level 14.
