On October 11, information from the Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board (Traffic Board) said that Nhon Trach Bridge (part of component project 1A - Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 3) is expected to be completed and put into operation on April 30, 2025.

Nhon Trach Bridge connecting Ho Chi Minh City with Dong Nai is an important link of Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 3 project.
When put into operation, Nhon Trach bridge will share the load for vehicles on the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay expressway, at the same time, help shorten travel time for people in both directions.
However, to put Nhon Trach bridge into operation, Ring Road 3 (section at the intersection of Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay expressway under package XL1) must also be synchronized.
Currently, the XL1 package has 15 road construction teams and 8 bridge construction teams working together at the same time.
The main projects focused on are treating weak soil with cement soil pillars, adding load to the ground treatment sections with wicks, bored piles, pier bases, and casting beams.
The total progress of XL1 package reached about 17%, basically meeting the overall project progress.

Regarding traffic organization, ensuring synchronous connection, and opening to traffic with Nhon Trach bridge on April 30, 2025, the Traffic Department said that the unit has coordinated with the My Thuan Project Management Board (investor of Nhon Trach bridge project) to agree to shorten the progress, complete some items at the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay expressway intersection in advance; ensuring synchronous connection with Nhon Trach bridge and expressway on April 30, 2025.
Specifically, at the intersection of Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh Expressway through the old District 9, a branch will be completed from Ho Chi Minh City to Dong Nao to connect to the access road to Nhon Trach Bridge.
In the opposite direction, a branch was also completed to connect from Nhon Trach bridge to the highway to Ho Chi Minh City.
At that time, vehicles from Ho Chi Minh City to Vung Tau will not have to go through the overloaded Long Thanh bridge on the highway as it is now.
"Although Nhon Trach Bridge started construction in September 2022 and the XL1 package only started construction in February 2024, to connect synchronously, contractors are concentrating people and machinery, working in 3 shifts to ensure the set progress," said the Traffic Department.
Speaking more about the sand issue for Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 3, the Traffic Department said that the demand for sand materials for the roadbed of the project through Ho Chi Minh City in 2024 is 3.7 million m3.
Following the Prime Minister's direction, localities have committed to supporting sand for the Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 3 project with a total volume of 10 million m3. Of which, Vinh Long province provides 1.4 million m3; Tien Giang 6.6 million m3 and Ben Tre 2 million m3.

It is known that the localities have supported and been very determined in granting mining licenses. Currently, there are 2/13 mines supplying sand for the project, and it is expected that in the fourth quarter of 2024, the licensing of the remaining 11/13 mines will be completed.
To date, contractors have mobilized about 1.1 million m3 of sand from domestic commercial sand sources, Cambodian sand as well as sand from the above-mentioned provinces.
The Traffic Department and construction contractors are still closely coordinating with localities to speed up licensing procedures for the remaining mines and increase sand mobilization from sand mines that localities have committed to support for the project, ensuring the set progress.
The project to build Ring Road 3 through Ho Chi Minh City (including Kenh Thay Thuoc bridge) has a total length of component project 1 of 47.35km.
Section 1 (Thu Duc City) has its starting point adjacent to Nhon Trach Bridge; Section 2 (Cu Chi, Hoc Mon, Binh Chanh districts) has its starting point adjacent to Binh Goi Bridge, and its end point is at the end of Kenh Thay Thuoc Bridge.
The project has a total investment of over 22,411 billion VND, capital from the central budget and the city budget (capital contribution ratio is 50% central budget and 50% city budget).
The project is expected to open the entire expressway section to technical traffic by the end of January 2026; the entire expressway section will be officially opened to traffic on April 30, 2026. The entire project (including the parallel road section) will be completed by June 30, 2026.
