Mr. Hoang Phuc Lam, Deputy Director of the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, has just said that currently (the evening of March 5), cold air has affected some places in the Northeast and will expand to other places tonight.

From tomorrow morning (March 6), cold air will continue to affect the Northwest, North Central region and part of the Central Central region.

Mr. Hoang Phuc Lam said that in March, cold air waves still appear but the intensity is not too strong.

“The coldest time in this cold spell will occur during the day and night of March 6-7,” Mr. Lam emphasized.

At the same time, Mr. Lam also informed that the lowest temperature in this cold air mass in the Northeast region could drop to 12-15 degrees, in mountainous areas below 8 degrees; in the provinces of the Central region 14-17 degrees.

Regarding the weather at sea, in the Gulf of Tonkin, winds may reach level 6, sometimes level 7; coastal areas from Quang Tri to Khanh Hoa, winds may reach level 6; offshore in the East Sea, winds may reach level 7, strongest on March 7.

This cold air mass will weaken from around March 9-10, causing light rain, drizzle and humidity to reappear in the Northeast.

“We estimate that in March, there will still be cold air waves but the intensity will not be too strong; causing short cold spells and light rain, drizzle, and humidity,” said Mr. Lam.

According to Mr. Lam, in April, the Northwest region may experience localized heat waves. The North and Central Central regions will also experience heat waves again during this period.

In the Southern region, March was hot for many days and lasted until April, before the rains caused by the southwest monsoon reappeared around mid-May.
