(NLDO)- On March 4, the Signing Ceremony of the Aid Contract for the Japanese Government's Grassroots Non-Refundable Aid Program was held in Phu Tho province.
Japanese Ambassador to Vietnam Ito Naoki, and representatives of the Ha Hoa District People's Committee signed an aid contract for the project to build a new school at Hien Luong Primary School, Ha Hoa District, Phu Tho Province, a locality affected by storm No. 3 (Yagi) last year. Hien Luong Primary School, in Hien Luong Commune, Ha Hoa District, which has about 330 students, was affected by Typhoon Yagi last year, causing damage to the school. Classes are currently being held in the conference room and the medical room. In addition, the schoolyard and other facilities have been seriously degraded, making it unsafe for students.
The project will construct a new school building (2 floors, 8 classrooms, 408 m2, built of concrete), a school yard, a school gate and a bicycle parking lot, aiming to improve the primary education environment in this rural area, contributing to improving the quality of education for students.
The Embassy of Japan in Vietnam has implemented 739 grassroots grant aid projects with a total amount of approximately 66 million USD from 1992 to fiscal year 2024, covering a wide range of areas such as education, healthcare, and infrastructure development support, contributing to boosting the local economy.
After the signing ceremony, Ambassador Ito Naoki visited Phuong Vien commune, Ha Hoa district, Phu Tho province, and inspected the Goc Sui bridge built with aid funds from Japan's Grassroots Grant Aid Program in fiscal year 2022 (to be completed in March 2024).
At Phuong Vien commune, Ambassador Ito Naoki was introduced to the local economic development situation after the bridge was built, including the more vibrant exchanges between neighboring villages and new factories built near the bridge.
The Kusanone Grassroots Grant Program is a support program that provides funding to organizations that carry out relatively small-scale development projects based on the lives of local people in developing areas.
Aid of more than 80 billion VND for many projects
In recent days, the Embassy of Japan in Vietnam has continuously held signing ceremonies for non-refundable aid contracts for aid projects with a total value of more than 80 billion VND.
On February 24, in Hanoi, the Embassy held a signing ceremony for a non-refundable aid contract at the grassroots level, funding more than 630,000 USD for 2 projects: Mine clearance in Quang Binh province and building a classroom building in Nghe An province.

According to the agreement, the mine clearance project in Quang Binh province is implemented by The Mines Advisory Group (MAG) Vietnam, with a total aid of 503,597 USD (equivalent to 12.5 billion VND).
The project focuses on clearing mines and unexploded ordnance in Quang Ninh and Bo Trach districts, aiming to convert about 2.45 square kilometers of contaminated land into land that can be used for production and socio-economic development.
Ms. Sarah Goring, Country Director of MAG Vietnam, said that since 2015, funding from the Japanese Government has supported this organization to clear more than 25 square kilometers of land contaminated with bombs and mines in Quang Binh, handle more than 7,000 reports from people and destroy more than 30,000 dangerous explosives.
The new funding will help maintain three mine clearance teams, including a mobile mine disposal team and two community liaison teams, to educate people about how to avoid accidents caused by explosive remnants of war.
In addition, the project to build a classroom block for Kindergarten 2 in Tru Son Commune, Do Luong District, Nghe An Province received an aid of 131,989 USD (equivalent to 3.28 billion VND), implemented by the Vietnam-Japan Friendship Association of Nghe An Province.

On February 27, in Hanoi, Japanese Ambassador to Vietnam Ito Naoki and Ms. Ramla Khalidi, Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Vietnam signed an Exchange Agreement to launch the non-refundable ODA project "Development of the Vietnam National Innovation Center - NIC".
The total investment capital for the project is worth 299 million yen (equivalent to 51 billion VND) provided by the Japanese Government, which will support the Vietnam National Innovation Center in developing a master plan and establishing the necessary impact investment fund, to train new-generation startup human resources, equip facilities for co-working spaces at the NIC Hoa Lac campus, and train human resources for NIC staff and startups.

The projects receiving aid include: Lo Suoi Tung Bridge Construction Project, Phin Ngan Commune, Bat Xat District, with an amount of 130,101 USD (about 3.23 billion VND); Multi-functional disaster prevention community house construction project in Bac Ha District, with an amount of 133,023 USD (3.3 billion VND); Multi-functional disaster prevention community house construction project in Bao Yen District, with an amount of 129,386 USD (3.21 billion VND).
