Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong visited Moscow on February 26-27 to consult on bilateral relations and attend a conference of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).
Reuters quoted a Chinese diplomat as saying that China and Russia should play "a better role as an anchor of stability in the changing context of the century".
He affirmed that China is willing to continue to strengthen strategic coordination between the two sides in multilateral international activities.
In Moscow, Mr. Sun Weidong met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
Interfax quoted a statement from the Chinese Foreign Ministry as saying that at the meeting, Deputy Minister Sun Weidong affirmed: " Under the strategic guidance of the leaders of the two countries, the comprehensive strategic partnership in the new era has developed healthily, steadily and deeply. Bilateral relations are at the best level in history ."
He called on the two sides to take the opportunity of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations this year as a "new starting point" to "further enhance mutual trust, expand comprehensive strategic cooperation and enhance practical interaction in various fields".
Officials from both sides also exchanged views on global and regional issues of mutual concern, including the situation on the Korean Peninsula and Ukraine.
Mr. Ton affirmed the important role of the SCO in Asia-Pacific issues and ensuring security, stability and common development of the region.
