Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra on March 12 reaffirmed the country's commitment to attracting investment despite the uncertain global economic situation.
According to a VNA correspondent in Bangkok, speaking at the event “Lighting up Thailand: Investing in Endless Opportunities” organized by the Board of Investment of Thailand (BoI), Prime Minister Paetongtarn emphasized plans to increase investor confidence by ensuring policy continuity, supporting long-term economic growth and creating a favorable environment for new investments.
The Thai government has identified key areas for development, including infrastructure, advanced technology and human resources. Major projects such as the high-speed railway, the dual-track railway extension and the Land Bridge Project are expected to enhance Thailand's logistics network.
Additionally, investments in digital industries, electric vehicle manufacturing and semiconductor manufacturing are expected to position Southeast Asia’s second-largest economy as an emerging tech hub, while workforce development efforts will equip Thai workers with skills for future industries.
Thailand has recorded its highest number of investment promotion applications in a decade, with total requests reaching 1.13 trillion baht (over $33 billion) by 2024, according to data from the Board of Investment of Thailand.
Prime Minister Paetongtarn attributed this to long-term economic planning and proactive investment strategies, which have helped cement the country's role as a preferred manufacturing and business destination.
Prime Minister Paetongtarn called for closer cooperation between the government, private sector and people to create a prosperous economic environment.
She affirmed that the government is currently working to strengthen Thailand's position as a strategic link between global investors and major economies, ensuring sustainable growth and competitiveness./.
