Long An Provincial People's Committee has submitted a document to the Provincial People's Council to solicit comments on developing a policy to attract containers to local ports.
According to the draft, shipping lines licensed to operate container transportation business according to regulations and performing cargo unloading or loading at ports in Long An province, with a minimum port frequency of 2 trips per month, will be supported with 250 million VND per trip.
Enterprises, organizations, and individuals who are cargo owners or logistics service providers transporting goods by container through ports in Long An province (except for temporarily imported and re-exported goods and transit goods) will be supported with VND1 million per 20-foot container and VND1.5 million for containers of 40 feet or more. The funding source for implementing this policy is allocated from the provincial budget balance.
Currently, Long An has 18 ports of various types and sizes invested and exploited by foreign enterprises along the Vam Co and Soai Rap rivers. Of which, Long An international port plays an important strategic role in both the West and Southeast regions, and is considered by Long An as a highlight for industrial, service and urban development.
