Bac Ha is a mountainous district located about 70km northeast of Lao Cai city. The first half of March this year is the time when plum blossoms are at their most beautiful in the Bac Ha plateau.
Located at an altitude of 1,000 - 1,500m, Bac Ha has a cool climate all year round, suitable for growing plums. Bac Ha has two famous plum varieties: Tam Hoa plum and Ta Van plum, grown in large quantities in the center of the district and blooming from February to mid-March.
Since the beginning of the year, Ms. Kim Oanh (37 years old) and her family have not only traveled to Moc Chau (Son La), Suoi Thau (Ha Giang) but also to Bac Ha. In the first days of March, visitors can both admire the plum blossoms and enjoy the yellow mustard season on the plateau.
According to Ms. Oanh, Ta Van plum blossoms in Bac Ha have a very unique beauty. They grow sparsely, not in large clusters, but like white snowflakes.
There are many areas in Bac Ha for tourists to see plum blossoms, just go along Lung Phinh street, to Can Cau, Seng Sui, or visit Ta Van Chu village, one of the legendary destinations of Bac Ha and also an attractive place for photographers. The gardens charge about 20,000 VND/person.
Plum trees are planted on mountain slopes, nestled next to cliffs, interspersed with houses in villages.
As a travel enthusiast and owner of a tent and camping equipment rental business in Hanoi, Ms. Oanh shared: “Although I have been to Bac Ha 5-6 times, I am still fascinated by the wild and beautiful scenery of this land, especially the indigenous culture that has not been overly commercialized. However, Bac Ha has not received much investment in tourism promotion.”
One of Ms. Oanh’s favorite routes is the Lung Phinh to Can Cau route. “The scenery on this route is majestic and extremely poetic. The villages are peaceful, the people are friendly and the children are innocent, and the horses run freely on the plateau,” she shared.
The beauty of spring in Bac Ha is a blend of nature and colorful indigenous culture.
Going in the flower season, visitors will be able to admire a stunning natural picture, full of wild colors, typical of the Northwest highlands.
Ms. Oanh and her family spent 2 days of the weekend having fun in Bac Ha. The time was short but there were enough activities such as going to see flowers, wearing ethnic costumes to check-in plum gardens, going to Bac Ha night market, going to the morning market, enjoying local products, buying gifts (fresh vegetables).
