New street along Dinh river
The Dinh River flood drainage system project, located in Nhon Binh and Nhon Phu wards (Quy Nhon City), was completed in December 2024, 7 months ahead of schedule compared to the original plan. Not only did the Dinh River "change its appearance", but new houses and trees along the river also created a new look, opening up a vibrant living space.
Meet people's expectations
Hearing that the province is preparing to inaugurate the Dinh River flood drainage system project on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the liberation of Binh Dinh province, Mr. Le Cao Hung, Head of Ward 2 (Nhon Binh Ward) could not hide his joy, saying that the project will revive the entire river and change the lives of the people.
“A few years ago, around July and August, local people mobilized forces to clean up the Dinh River and remove garbage to reduce flooding during the rainy season. But there were no years when the Dinh River was not flooded because the flow of the river was not smooth. Since the investment in the project, people have breathed a sigh of relief when it rained and there was no more flooding. Now, along the river embankment, many people exercise every morning and every evening, it's so much fun!”, Mr. Hung excitedly said.
It was a haunting time when Dinh River was a hot spot for environmental pollution, along with people encroaching to build houses and construct works, causing the riverbed to gradually narrow to only about 1 meter in some places. Therefore, when the project was implemented, people were happy and cooperated with the government in compensation and site clearance to make way for construction.
372 households and organizations were affected when implementing the investment project for the Dinh River flood drainage system, with a land acquisition area of 26.76 hectares. Of these, 170 households, mostly from Nhon Binh ward, had to relocate to the Dong Chua Binh An resettlement area (group 15, residential area 2, Nhon Binh ward).
Mr. Nguyen Van Huu (born in 1960, in group 11, quarter 2, Nhon Binh ward) shared: “In the past, in the dry season, the stench rose from the river, in the rainy season, we lost sleep and had to worry about buying tarpaulins to wrap our belongings, preparing to escape the flood. Now that situation has been escaped, replaced by a bright - green - clean - beautiful living space when along the Dinh river embankment, the government has invested synchronously in internal traffic routes, sidewalks, trees, lighting, drainage systems…”.

Keep the landscape for people to enjoy
According to Mr. To Tan Thi, Director of the Provincial Agricultural and Rural Development Project Management Board - the project investor, the Dinh River flood drainage system project will start construction in March 2022.
Total investment in project construction is more than 316 billion VND, using provincial budget capital.
Regarding compensation, site clearance and resettlement, the People's Committee of Quy Nhon City will organize and hand over the cleared site to the Provincial Agricultural and Rural Development Project Management Board to organize construction. The source of capital for compensation, site clearance and resettlement will be used from the Quy Nhon City budget.
“The biggest highlight is the site clearance work carried out very well by the Quy Nhon City People’s Committee. This has contributed to helping the project complete ahead of schedule,” Mr. To Tan Thi affirmed.
Mr. Nguyen Van Dung, Secretary of Quy Nhon City Party Committee, said that, identifying the importance and great significance of the Dinh River flood drainage system project, the locality has coordinated with the investor to carry out the site clearance work in a very urgent spirit, ensuring both the completion progress and the quality of the project. Quy Nhon City is also implementing the project to expand the span of Doi Bridge (connecting the main traffic axis Tran Hung Dao - Hung Vuong, Nhon Binh Ward) by 23 m to reduce the pressure on flood drainage, limiting the flooding situation of the city.
The completed project maximized its effectiveness, directly protecting residential areas and urban areas, ensuring production safety, limiting damage caused by floods to urban areas in the Northwest and Southwest of the city with tens of thousands of households, while creating a spacious appearance and driving force for local economic development. The completed project met great expectations and had the cooperation and sacrifice of Quy Nhon people affected by the project. The city also calculated appropriate planning for the area along the Dinh River to keep space for people to enjoy and create favorable conditions for local economic development.
