The 66th Tien Phong Newspaper National Marathon and Long Distance Championship in 2025 - "Triumph" will be held in Quang Tri province from March 28-30, 2025. As one of the most attractive tournaments in the national athletics competition system, this year's tournament brings together more than 7,400 excellent athletes of Vietnamese athletics from professional to amateur levels; a diverse award system of up to 131 categories, with a total cash value of nearly 700 million VND. This is also an opportunity for Quang Tri to promote tourism, cuisine, introduce its history as well as economic development potential, natural landscapes and traditional cultural values along with the friendliness and hospitality of Quang Tri people to domestic and international tourists.

Promises top competition
The predecessor was the Tien Phong Newspaper National Cross Country Championship which started in 1958, now the Tien Phong Newspaper National Marathon and Long Distance Championship has developed into a leading long distance athletics tournament in the country, recognized as an official tournament in the national athletics competition system. This is not only an athletics tournament but also an event with the mission of spreading the spirit of sports, promoting the development of athletics, the running movement and physical training of people of all walks of life across the country. The message "Triumph" of this season is not only an epic about the glorious victory of the nation but also inspires the dedication, determination and spirit of generations of Vietnamese people in the process of building the country.
The 2025 Tien Phong Newspaper National Marathon and Long Distance Championship gathers many talented athletes from across the country, including members of the national team such as: Nguyen Thi Oanh, Nguyen Van Lai, Hoang Nguyen Thanh, Hoang Thi Ngoc Hoa... According to statistics from the tournament's Organizing Committee, there are currently more than 7,400 professional and amateur athletes registered to participate in the tournament. Athletes will compete for individual prizes in the distances of 21.1 km, 42.195 km for men and women in the professional and amateur categories; 10 km for professional men, young men, amateur men and women; 5 km for professional women, young women and amateur men and women. Traditionally, in addition to competing in individual distances, athletes from provincial, municipal and industry teams also compete for team and group points. |
Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Tien Phong Newspaper Le Minh Toan said that after many years of separating the advanced and amateur systems, from 2024, the Organizing Committee (OC) of the tournament has made a major change in both expertise and awards by bringing excellent amateur athletes in the half-marathon and marathon distances to the same starting line with advanced athletes, promising an exciting "foot-to-foot" competition.
In addition to separate awards for the two categories, the Organizing Committee has built a general award structure for the 5 best runners, regardless of whether they are advanced or amateur athletes. Athletes participating in the 2 distances of half marathon and amateur marathon will receive awards according to 5 age groups, including: 16-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59 and from 60 years old. With a diverse award system, the total value of this year's awards is up to nearly 700 million VND in cash and in-kind awards from sponsors.

To ensure accuracy, the race course was measured by a specialist from the Vietnam Athletics Federation using specialized equipment and thoroughly inspected according to international standards. Athlete Nguyen Khanh Ly, Vietnam National Athletics Team shared: “I registered to participate in the 2025 Tien Phong Newspaper National Marathon and Long Distance Championship in the 21.1 km professional category.
This competition brings together many of the country's top athletes, so I aim to be in the top 3 athletes with the highest results to have more motivation to practice." In August 2024, Khanh Ly won first prize in the women's 10 km distance at the Quang Tri Marathon 2024 - Journey to the Land of Fire along with a number of high achievements in national marathons.
With serious and meticulous training for the 21.1 km competition and solid achievements, Khanh Ly said she is confident that she will complete the set goal. The amateur athletes of Quang Tri Runners Club are actively training to participate in the competition and achieve many high results, thereby contributing to the development of the Club and spreading the running and health training movement more and more widely among the people in Quang Tri.
Journey connecting past and present
The series of events of the Tien Phong Newspaper National Marathon and Long Distance Championship 2025 began on March 28, with meaningful activities such as: organizing a memorial and gratitude ceremony at the Truong Son and Road 9 National Martyrs' Cemeteries; Quang Tri Ancient Citadel; releasing flower lanterns on the Thach Han River. The flag-raising ceremony and tournament opening took place on the morning of March 29 at the Hien Luong - Ben Hai National Special Historical Site.
Along with that are social security activities, giving away charity houses in Quang Tri province in response to the Government's call to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses; organizing booths to display products of a number of businesses and localities.
To ensure the successful organization of the 2025 Tien Phong Newspaper National Marathon and Long Distance Championship, the People's Committee of Quang Tri province coordinated with Tien Phong Newspaper to issue a memorandum of understanding; develop a plan, estimate the budget for organizing the tournament; establish the Organizing Committee, direct relevant departments, branches, sectors and localities to prepare facilities to serve the management activities of the Organizing Committee. Develop a plan, organize forces to ensure security, order, traffic safety, environmental sanitation, medical care, prepare means to meet the needs of athletes and tourists. Direct the propaganda and promotion of the tournament on information channels and social networks; mobilize union members, youth and people of all walks of life in the province to participate in the race. Complete the production of clips introducing the tournament, the meaning of medals and competition shirts at the tournament; simulate the running route and information related to accommodation, food, transportation, and tourist attractions of the province. Mobilizing volunteers to support and guide tourists at tourist attractions in the province during the tournament. Up to now, all preparations have been basically completed, ensuring readiness for the tournament to take place successfully and impressively in Quang Tri. This is also an important activity to celebrate the 118th anniversary of General Secretary Le Duan's birthday and the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South and national reunification on April 30 (1975 - 2025). According to the Organizing Committee, the 2025 Tien Phong Newspaper National Marathon and Long-distance Championship is a journey connecting the past and the present, where every step touches history.
This year's racekit carries the spirit of the soldiers of the past with the proud green of the soldier's uniform, the legendary floppy hat and the "Triumph Song" medal, meaningful items to honor the heroic historical milestone of 50 years of national reunification.

Sharing his feelings about this tournament, Vietnam national track and field athlete Luong Duc Phuoc said: “Being able to return to compete right in my hometown Quang Tri is an opportunity for me to participate in many meaningful activities such as burning incense to pay tribute to heroic martyrs, releasing flower lanterns on Thach Han River; admiring the beautiful natural landscape and living in the sincere feelings of the people of Quang Tri.
