On March 21, the People's Committee of Hoan Kiem District announced that the district has completed preparations for the investment project to renovate Ly Thai To flower garden. The district plans to place the Km0 milestone right in front of the statue of King Ly Thai To.
It is expected that the work of renovating the flower garden and placing the Km0 milestone will be carried out from April 2025 and completed in October 2025.
Regarding the Km0 milestone, Hoan Kiem district and the consulting unit, which is the group of authors who won first prize in the Km0 milestone design contest, will install the project at the center of the festival yard in Ly Thai To flower garden.

Previously in 2020, Hanoi held a ceremony to announce the results of the Km0 Landmark Design Competition (part of the Investment Project to build, renovate and embellish the area around Hoan Kiem Lake). The winning design was the product of young lecturers from Hanoi Architectural University.
According to the winning design, the milestone is a 6cm thick, 4m2 square cast bronze plate. The focal point is the central square with the symbol of the capital Hanoi. The Km0 milestone will be placed in front of the statue of King Ly Thai To (Hoan Kiem district).
According to the design unit, the copper plate is cast in one piece from pure brass. After completing the pattern, the copper plate will be painted with 3 layers of anti-oxidation protective paint, the painted surface will be finished with a matte gloss.
Decorative patterns are stylized from a treasure trove of traditional patterns with high generality, representing images of nature and Vietnamese people spanning 4,000 years of history such as mountains, hills, clouds, water, villages, cities, temples, and people.

Notably, the lighting part of the project will be the highlight when a 3D hologram projector is installed that can illuminate in many scenarios on the original image background to suit the corresponding events.
At night, a projector will project a 3D hologram image onto the space above the bronze relief. The image is a stylized zero, representing a geographical marker. The image is stylized as a square door frame, with a direct view of the axis of the statue of King Ly Thai To.
During the day, the 3D hologram projector will project the Hanoi logo on the bottom of the glass. In some cases of city or national events, this image will be changed accordingly, for example, the map of Vietnam with full territorial waters.
According to the author of this design, Holographic technology creates a 3D image floating in the air without the need for a projection screen, allowing viewers to observe 360-degree floating images without using any specialized glasses.
