Phong Dien solemnly celebrates 50 years of Liberation Day

City leaders and former leaders, along with local officials and people attended the celebration.

Mr. Nguyen Khoa Diem, former member of the Politburo, former Secretary of the Party Central Committee, former Head of the Central Ideology and Culture Commission; Colonel Ngo Nam Cuong, Deputy Commander of Military Region 4; Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairman of the City People's Committee Nguyen Van Phuong; representatives of the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the city; former leaders of the city through the periods; Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, Heroes of the People's Armed Forces; representatives of local leaders of Phong Dien (Can Tho City), Phu Ninh (Phu Tho Province), Nam Sach (Hai Duong Province), Hai Lang (Quang Tri Province) and many local people attended the ceremony.

According to the speech at the ceremony presented by Secretary of the City Party Committee Vo Van Vui, exactly 50 years ago, in the seething atmosphere of the Southern people attacking and rising up, under the wise and talented leadership of the Party, the army and people of Phong Dien stood up together to fight, attack, and collapse the entire puppet army and puppet government system and achieved complete victory.

At exactly 3:00 a.m. on March 24, 1975, Phong Dien was completely liberated, marking a brilliant historical milestone in the heroic struggle of the local army and people. This milestone contributed significantly to the victory of the Hue liberation campaign on March 26, 1975, culminating in the historic Ho Chi Minh campaign, completely liberating the South and reunifying the country.

Coming out of the devastation, loss, and pain of the war "bombs and bullets", the Party Committee, government, army and people of Phong Dien have promoted the heroic tradition, solidarity, and unity to rebuild and build the homeland. Up to now, Phong Dien has made great strides on the path of innovation and development after 50 years of liberation and after 35 years of re-establishing the district in October 1990 (now a town) with creative efforts to overcome difficulties and challenges, find appropriate directions, and effectively exploit the potential advantages of the locality.

In particular, after 5 years of implementing the Resolution of the District Party Congress (term XIV) for the 2020 - 2025 term and Resolution No. 15-NQ/TU, dated December 13, 2021 of the Provincial Party Committee (City Party Committee) on building and developing Phong Dien to 2025, with a vision to 2030, the Party Committee, government and people of the entire town have made efforts to organize and synchronously implement tasks and solutions to build the town with the highest political determination and have achieved many important results.

Urban technical infrastructure and environmental landscape are increasingly improved, urban appearance has many improvements. Economic structure continues to shift in the right direction, focusing on increasing the proportion of industry (accounting for 60%), trade - services (accounting for 20%), reducing the proportion of agriculture (accounting for 20%); average income per capita reaches 75.7 million VND/person, people's material and spiritual life is increasingly improved, the poverty rate by the end of 2024 is reduced to 1.44%. National defense and security are constantly consolidated and enhanced.

The town Party Committee has more than 4,000 party members with 51 grassroots party organizations. The leadership capacity and fighting strength of the party organization and party members are increasingly enhanced. Organizations in the political system are increasingly strong. Officials, party members and people of Phong Dien are extremely happy and excited when the National Assembly issued Resolution No. 175, the Standing Committee of the National Assembly issued Resolution No. 1314 on recognizing Thua Thien Hue as a centrally-run city, Phong Dien as a town in early 2025. This is an important milestone and a source of pride for the Party Committee and people of Phong Dien town in the process of development.

Congratulating and praising the great achievements that the Party Committee, government and people of Phong Dien town have strived to achieve over the past 50 years, Mr. Nguyen Van Phuong, Chairman of the City People's Committee, said that entering a new era, an era of national growth, he requested the Party Committee, government and people of Phong Dien to continue to promote the heroic revolutionary tradition, the will to overcome difficulties, self-reliance and self-strengthening; the spirit of studiousness, exploiting local resources well; strengthening solidarity and unity within the Party, government, front and socio-political organizations; the consensus of the people, and performing well the tasks in the new period.

In particular, at present, Phong Dien town needs to focus on implementing the revolution in streamlining the organization, making it more efficient and effective. At the same time, it is determined to complete the goals and targets set by the Resolution of the 14th Town Party Congress, term 2020-2025.

Comprehensively develop the socio-economy in the direction of industry - service - agriculture; complete urban planning, construction planning to serve investment calling; apply science and technology, digital transformation in all fields and maintain the criteria for building new rural areas (NTM), strive to build Phong Dien communes to meet advanced and model NTM criteria, build a dynamic town in the north of the city.

After the ceremony, a special art program took place with the theme: "Proud of the homeland" with the participation of many famous artists and singers from Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Hue.
