The 30th Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders' Meeting Week took place over 6 days, with the theme "Creating a Resilient and Sustainable Future for All". The 30th APEC Summit took place in the context of commemorating the 30th anniversary of the first APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting in the United States (1993 - 2023) and marking the 25th anniversary of Vietnam's accession to APEC (1998).
APEC 30 focuses on three priorities: Connectivity - building a resilient and connected region, promoting inclusive economic prosperity; Innovation - fostering an innovative environment for a sustainable future; and Inclusion - strengthening an equal and inclusive future for all people. The Vietnamese delegation led by President Vo Van Thuong has a number of important activities such as attending the APEC leaders' dialogue and having bilateral meetings with leaders of APEC economies.
After upgrading the relationship between Vietnam and the United States to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for Peace, Cooperation and Sustainable Development, the two countries have carried out many activities to promote comprehensive cooperation between the two sides. At the Roundtable Discussion connecting US businesses and Vietnamese localities organized by the Ministry of Planning and Investment at the Marriott Union Square Hotel, San Francisco on November 15, 2023, witnessed by the President, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, representatives of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee and the Green Alliance signed a Memorandum of Understanding on coordination in research and analysis of opportunities for emission reduction in Ho Chi Minh City and a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in research, development, and integration of artificial intelligence (AI) solutions for the transportation sector.
The Memorandum of Understanding notes that the parties commit to supporting Ho Chi Minh City in researching technologies and roadmaps for developing low-emission renewable energy sources, net zero emissions, energy storage technology, carbon capture and utilization technology; Supporting relevant agencies and organizations in Ho Chi Minh City to promote low-emission reduction, net zero emissions in the field of construction materials production; Developing green urban areas, ecological urban areas, green buildings, sustainable urbanization; Developing agriculture towards ecological agriculture, organic agriculture, low emissions, net zero emissions; The Green Alliance also supports the city in developing strategies to contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions; identifying the causes of areas/sectors that generate large emissions.
Regarding cooperation in research, development, and integration of artificial intelligence (AI) solutions for the transport sector, after signing the Memorandum of Understanding, the parties expect to propose to the city solutions on smart city transport initiatives, deploying Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Internet of Things (IoT) technologies to improve traffic management, reduce congestion and reduce emissions from traffic, carbon-reducing transport solutions, optimizing transport infrastructure, and proposing monitoring and emission reduction strategies for the city./.
