Diversity of livelihood models

With 100% of the population being ethnic minorities, since 2022, many households in village 4, Phuoc Cat 2 commune, Cat Tien district have been supported to implement the black pig farming model for economic development. The model has been effective, contributing to improving people's income and living standards. A typical example is the family of Mr. Dieu Srieng, in village 4, after only 1 year of being supported with the black pig farming livelihood model, his family has escaped poverty.

According to Mr. Dieu Srieng, in 2022, his family received support for breeding pigs. Thanks to proper care following technical procedures, through each stage, the pigs grew and developed well. From the 10 breeding pigs initially supported, his family has sold 1 litter and is currently restocking the herd.

The work of deploying and implementing the livelihood support model for the poor has received attention and facilitation from the Party Committee, the government, the Vietnam Fatherland Front, and socio-political organizations from the district to the grassroots. In particular, there is consensus and response from all walks of life in the province. This is the formula for a breakthrough in promoting the people's ownership associated with sustainable poverty reduction in the area.

Mr. Bon Yo Soan, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Lam Dong province

In Lam Dong province, Lam Ha district is also one of the localities that has done a good job of effectively replicating the economic development model. Specifically, the district has implemented a livelihood project to support 185 ethnic minority and poor households to implement the Mulberry and Silkworm Cultivation Model in 7 communes and towns with ethnic minorities in the locality.

The model was implemented in August 2022, 185 households were supported to grow mulberry and raise silkworms with average or higher cocoon yields. From the livelihood support fund in 2022 - 2023, up to now, 41 households have escaped poverty, 26 households have escaped near poverty, the area of mulberry and silkworm farming increased by 27.9 hectares compared to the area registered for support in 2022", said Mr. Hoang Son, Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Lam Ha district.

According to Mr. Bon Yo Soan, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Lam Dong province, identifying appropriate livelihood support as a solution to help people sustainably reduce poverty, the Standing Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Lam Dong province has organized work with localities and related sectors to survey and develop a plan for the Project to support livelihood models for poor and near-poor households...

New vitality

In recent years, the Party Committee and government of Lam Dong province have identified poverty reduction as one of the priority tasks in local socio-economic development, implementing many comprehensive solutions, creating new vitality in this land.

Đa dạng hóa sinh kế là một trọng những giải pháp quan trọng trong giảm ngèo ở Lâm Đồng.
Livelihood diversification is one of the important solutions in poverty reduction in Lam Dong.

This achievement is thanks to the attention and investment of the State in remote areas, ethnic minority areas; along with the leadership of Lam Dong province has promoted the implementation of policies and programs related to sustainable multidimensional poverty reduction, in which the most prominent is Directive No. 40-CT/TW dated November 22, 2014 of the Secretariat on strengthening the Party's leadership over social policy credit (Directive No. 40).

After 10 years of implementing Directive No. 40, up to now, the total policy credit capital in Lam Dong has reached over 5,987 billion VND (an increase of 3,819 billion VND compared to 2014), the average annual growth rate reached 10.1%; in which the capital entrusted locally is 624 billion VND (an increase of 11.8 times compared to 2014), accounting for 10.42% of the total capital.

Người dân Lâm Đồng thay đổi nhận thức về cách sử dụng vốn ưu đãi của Nhà nước, áp dụng vào phát triển sản xuất, chăn nuôi, nâng cao đời sống.
Lam Dong people change their awareness about how to use preferential capital from the State, apply it to develop production, livestock, and improve their lives.

In Dam Rong district, ethnic minorities have boldly borrowed capital to build economic development models, thereby escaping poverty and having the opportunity to become rich. Typically, the family of Ms. Dinh Thi Hoa, in Da R'Sal commune, with the model of growing mulberry and raising silkworms; or the model of raising sturgeon of Ms. Nguyen Phuong Bac in Ro Men commune... have built houses and purchased equipment to serve production and life.

With the participation of the entire political system, the consensus and efforts of the people, the multidimensional poverty rate has gradually decreased over the years. Over the past 10 years, policy credit capital has helped 23,778 households escape poverty, create jobs, increase income for 40,153 workers, create conditions for over 12,201 students to borrow capital to cover their study expenses; build over 207,378 clean water works, standard toilets, contributing to improving the living environment; 1,831 poor households received capital support to build new, solid and spacious houses. People have changed their perception of how to use preferential capital from the State, apply it to developing agricultural and forestry production, and improve their lives.

Coming to Lam Dong today, the wide, straight asphalt roads connecting villages have replaced the red dirt, muddy roads surrounding high hills and dense forests of the past. The lives of ethnic minorities in remote areas have changed significantly. The number of poor households in the whole province by the end of 2023 was 3,912, accounting for 1.09% (of which the number of poor ethnic minority households decreased to 3.24%). 109/111 communes in the province have met the new rural standards.
