Coming to Sung Sot Cave, visitors can explore one of the largest and most beautiful caves in Ha Long Bay, with magical stalactites created over hundreds of millions of years.
Sung Sot Cave is one of the typical karst caves with high scientific value, discovered by the French in 1901, located in the limestone mountain range of Bo Hon Island, with a total area of over 10,000m2 and is one of the largest caves in Ha Long Bay.
Magnificent view of Ha Long Bay from Sung Sot Cave
Sung Sot Cave is divided into two main compartments with an open and closed structure. After each narrow passage, the space is widened, the deeper into the compartment, the larger the area and the more impressive the scenery.
Each compartment in the cave has its own unique features but all surprise visitors, true to the name of the cave. In particular, the outer compartment is likened to a giant "opera house" with a curved dome and many stalactites sparkling like lights. From the cave floor to the ceiling, the cave is about 30m high.
Notably, entering the outer compartment towards the ceiling, visitors see small dents that seem to be elaborately and delicately carved by human hands.
The last compartment is entered through a small path and opens up a completely different scene, with a vast cave that can accommodate thousands of people. Coming here, visitors are not only amazed by the strange beauty but also admire the majestic, wonderful things that nature has bestowed upon humans. Each scene in the cave brings visitors new and surprising feelings.
According to statistics from the Ha Long Bay Management Board, on average, Sung Sot Cave welcomes about 1 million visitors each year. In the photo is the cave mouth seen from the water surface.
The stalactites appear before our eyes with many magical shapes like a dragon boat with sails full of wind; the image of a mother and baby toad gathering together warmly; Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara; dragons, turtles, doves, elephants, unicorns...
The magical beauty of Sung Sot Cave has been honored by many organizations. In early 2023, along with Luon Cave, Sung Sot Cave was honored by American television channel CNN in the list of 9 famous caves in Vietnam. CNN rated Sung Sot Cave as worthy of the world with its amazing beauty that is rarely found anywhere else in the world, contributing to the attractiveness of the World Natural Heritage Ha Long Bay.
