(QBĐT) - Closely following the breath of life, exploiting and applying folk materials to song composition, musicians of the Vietnam Association of Musicians in the province have left many marks in artistic work. With hundreds of works on the theme of nature and people of Quang Binh, generations of musicians have contributed to preserving and promoting cultural values ​​and actively contributing to the development of music.

Homeland, the source of emotions

The head of the Vietnam Artists Association in the province, Le Duc Tri, said: During the years of the war against the US to save the country, from the movement "Singing to drown out the sound of bombs", many artists successfully composed songs praising revolutionary heroism, homeland, country and the brave people of Quang Binh. Notable works include: "My dear Quang Binh" (Hoang Van), "On the sea of ​​the homeland" (Duc Minh), "Dem tren Cha Lo" (Pham Tuyen), "Giu bien troi Quang Binh-Vinh Linh" (Xuan Giao) and many other works by artists from Quang Binh. That is the premise for future generations to learn, continue, enrich and beautify a "Quang Binh in songs" bearing the strong imprint of the land.

Belonging to the “golden” generation of Quang Binh music, artists Hoang Song Huong and Duong Viet Chien still keep the “fire” of passion for art despite being at an age that is “rare in the past and present”. If artist Hoang Song Huong is known for many songs that have stood the test of time and won prestigious awards, the musical legacy and persistent working spirit of artist Duong Viet Chien are also examples for future generations to learn and follow. Not only leaving their mark with songs such as: “Love of Nhat Le River”, “Ket Ngan Dai Hoa Kinh Dinh Nguoi”, “Dong Hoi Hoa Hong”, “The General of the People”… and a number of song collections, artist Duong Viet Chien also has many works that breathe new life, expressing his passionate love for his homeland and country.

Coming to the common home of professional music composers not long ago (2022), but NS Nguyen Minh Tam has clearly matured with many good songs that have been well received by the public. His main theme is his hometown Quang Binh, mainly the land of Tuyen Hoa where he lives and works. His love for his hometown and real life experiences have given him the inspiration to compose many songs with simple, rustic lyrics, sweet, deep melodies that easily "touch" the hearts of listeners.

Artist Nguyen Minh Tam shared: Each name of land, village, historical place, cultural tradition… “plants” in my heart pride and gratitude to previous generations. The source of materials obtained from exploring and learning about the customs, habits, and lifestyle of the people became the catalyst for me to compose songs based on cultural features and folk melodies.

In addition to the creative team, the association also has many artists working in the fields of performance staging, music arrangement, etc. such as Quach Si Dung, Nguyen Van Bong, Huu Tho, Meritorious Artist Thanh Nhan. It is a matter of pride that in 2024, artist Thuy Linh (Quang Binh Traditional Art Troupe) was honored to be awarded the title of People's Artist by the State.

Struggling to find a way

The Vietnam Artists Association of the province has 12 members, who are the core force in the field of music composition and performing arts, making significant contributions to the music and literary and artistic activities of the province. Despite having a relatively strong composition force, many artists in the association are still struggling with the reality of lacking young faces and lacking songs that have a place in the diversely developing music market today...

From the theme of homeland and country, the artists have left many impressions in the hearts of the audience through many songs with the sound of the times. Some works were awarded through large-scale music competitions and festivals such as: "Chieu Nhat Le" (music by Le Duc Tri, poetry by Phan Dinh Tien), B prize at the 2024 National Music Festival; "Len Ha, the immortal epic" (Le Duc Tri, adapted from Ngo Van Son's poem) and "Love of La River" (Hoang Song Huong), B prize at the music award of the Vietnam Musicians Association; "Quang Binh Mother" (Duong Viet Chien) and "Phong Nha De Nhat Ky Quan"... (Le Duc Tri) were awarded B prize in the Literature and Art Composition Movement on the occasion of the 420th anniversary of the formation of Quang Binh province...

Artist Hoang Song Huong confided: In any era, music plays an important role in people's lives. Especially in the 4.0 era, when the "listening" part is dominant, music needs to promote its strengths in propaganda, creating motivation to encourage people to compete in labor production, preserve cultural identity, and build a rich and beautiful homeland. In reality, Quang Binh artists today all operate independently, lacking connections and sharing experiences to help each other develop towards the common goal of creating works with depth to meet public needs and be suitable for the times. Artists in general, and artists in particular, should not focus on the quantity of works but should prioritize quality, must write what the people need...

Artist Hoang Song Huong said: To do that, artists must constantly create, effectively exploit diverse life materials, and invest more in their works in terms of both content and artistic value. The Artists Association needs to better demonstrate its role in connecting, gathering, and building a team of artists with solid expertise in various fields and must have a suitable direction.

Sharing about the new direction, the Head of the Vietnam Artists Association in the province, Le Duc Tri, said: The Association will innovate its activities, encourage, motivate, and promote the creativity of each artist to create high-quality musical works that are suitable for the new situation. On the other hand, it will continue to search for and nurture young faces and create useful playgrounds to connect generations of artists. Thereby, popularizing and spreading new songs to the public, especially students in schools in the province.
