Oil prices rose nearly 1% at the start of the week due to strong summer demand, concerns about supply shortages due to escalating geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and Europe, and a weaker US dollar.
However, oil prices fell 1% on the second trading session of the week due to a drop in US consumer confidence. Oil prices rose more than 1% on the third and fourth trading sessions of the week amid concerns about supply disruptions due to escalating political tensions despite an unexpected increase in US petroleum inventories.
However, in the closing session of the week, oil prices could not maintain the three consecutive sessions of increase due to pressure from investors considering weak fuel demand in the US, in the context of US personal consumption spending data in May showing neither increase nor decrease compared to April.
Overall, oil prices recorded a mixed trading week last week, with Brent crude down 24 cents/week and WTI crude up 81 cents/week.
