On the world market on the morning of March 5, WTI oil price decreased by 0.34 USD, equivalent to 0.5%, to 68.03 USD/barrel. US Brent oil price decreased by 0.53 USD, equivalent to 0.74%, to 71.09 USD/barrel.
Meanwhile, the price of imported gasoline in the Singapore market on the afternoon of March 4 was at 80.3 USD/barrel for RON 95 gasoline, down nearly 6 USD/barrel compared to 6 days ago; RON 92 gasoline was at 78.44 USD/barrel, down more than 6 USD/barrel.
Oil prices fell after OPEC+ decided to proceed with a planned production increase in April. According to Reuters, on March 3, OPEC+ decided to increase oil production by 138,000 barrels/day in April, the first increase since 2022.
Earlier, in the trading session on March 4, world oil prices continued to slide, reaching a 6-month low. OPEC+ increased production in April, the US imposed tariffs on imports from Canada, Mexico, China, and Beijing's retaliatory tariffs were factors that pushed oil prices down.
Based on the developments in world oil prices, some oil and gas businesses believe that domestic gasoline prices in the March 5 adjustment period may be adjusted down sharply following the trend of world oil prices.
Specifically, if the regulatory agency does not affect the Petroleum Price Stabilization Fund, domestic gasoline prices could decrease by about VND700-800 per liter. Similarly, diesel prices are likely to be adjusted down by about VND580-620 per liter.
In case the regulatory agency draws from the Stabilization Fund, gasoline prices may decrease less.
Previously, on February 27, the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Ministry of Finance adjusted the gasoline price down. Specifically, the price of RON 95 gasoline decreased by VND220/liter, the selling price was VND21,110/liter.
Similarly, the price of E5 gasoline was also adjusted down by VND200/liter, the selling price was VND20,650/liter.
In the same trend, diesel price was adjusted down by 110 VND/liter, selling price at 18,950 VND/liter.
In this operating period, the Ministry of Industry and Trade - Ministry of Finance did not set aside or use the Petroleum Price Stabilization Fund for E5RON92 gasoline, RON95 gasoline, diesel oil, kerosene, and mazut oil.
