Ha Giang is the northernmost province of the country, with great potential for tourism development thanks to its majestic natural landscapes and the unique traditional culture of 19 ethnic groups. Over the years, the province has always been an attractive destination for domestic and foreign tourists.
In the period 2021-2025, the number of tourists to Ha Giang increased by 33%. In 2024, the province welcomed more than 3.2 million visitors, with tourism revenue reaching more than VND 8,149 billion. Ha Giang was awarded the "Asia's Leading Emerging Tourist Destination" award by the World Travel Awards (WTA) in 2023.
During the journey of experiencing Ha Giang, there are 3 famous historical and cultural sites that are always the destinations chosen by tourists. The first destination of tourists when coming to Ha Giang is Vi Xuyen Martyrs Cemetery. This is the resting place of nearly 2,000 martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the resistance war against France, against America and in the fight to protect the northern border.
Thanks to the attention of the Party and the State, the cemetery has been invested in upgrading to be spacious and clean. Every year, tens of thousands of people and tourists visit this cemetery because it is the first destination in the journey to the source in the northernmost province of the Fatherland and also a place to educate the revolutionary tradition for the younger generation.

Ha Giang is a leading emerging destination in Asia, attracting a large number of domestic and foreign tourists each year. |
Coming to Ha Giang city, an indispensable stop is 26/3 Square, where there is a statue of Uncle Ho talking to the ethnic people of Ha Giang when he visited in 1961. Visitors stop here not only to admire the beautiful mountain city but also to check-in at the Km0 milestone, the starting point for the journey to explore the majestic and poetic Happiness Road, ranked among the most beautiful "backpacking" roads in Vietnam running through 4 districts of the Dong Van Karst Plateau Global Geopark.
After a journey of hundreds of kilometers from Ha Giang city to Dong Van Stone Plateau; passing through the fields of buckwheat flowers blooming on the rocky mountainsides in winter, or the roads full of peach and plum blossoms in spring, the stop that any tourist wants to visit is Lung Cu flagpole. This is the northernmost point of the country, where there are majestic natural landscapes and villages of H'Mong and Lo Lo people still preserving unique traditional cultural values.
The three famous historical and cultural sites of Ha Giang mentioned above are also the locations chosen by the Ha Giang Provincial Party Committee to install NFC chip panels (wireless connection technology), in the project "Love Vietnam" implemented by Nhan Dan Newspaper at famous cultural and historical sites in 63 provinces and cities across the country.
The project is a map connecting tourist attractions in each locality through NFC technology. The project aims to promote the image of historical and cultural sites across the country, from Ha Giang to Ca Mau, creating unique discovery experiences for visitors, supporting the promotion of tourism development.
In Ha Giang, NFC chip boards are installed in prominent, easily accessible locations. Locals and tourists use their phones to check-in at destinations and post personal photos. All photos and messages will be collected and combined into a map of Vietnam with full images of people from all over the country.
In addition, the chip-based board also provides features for searching, navigating, finding information, and exploring tourist destinations at the current location, neighboring areas, monuments, and satellite attractions.

Tourists check-in at Lung Cu flagpole. |
At Lung Cu flagpole, tourists enjoy using their personal phones to check-in at the northernmost destination of the country. After checking in and sending a message at the NFC chip board at Lung Cu flagpole, Nguyen Khac Tha, a tourist from Hanoi, said: “My journey to the northernmost point of the country is more interesting and meaningful when I can keep images and messages about the land I have just experienced. In each province and city, there are 3 NFC chip boards placed at famous historical, cultural and tourist sites. When I check-in at the first point in the northernmost point of the country, it will give me more motivation to find chip-mounted points in provinces and cities across the country.”
Up to now, after just over a week of installing NFC chip panels in Ha Giang, thousands of tourists have checked in and written messages to the project "Love Vietnam".
Mr. Nguyen Doan Khanh, Chairman of the People's Committee of Lung Cu Commune, Dong Van District, said: "Every day, Lung Cu Flagpole welcomes thousands of visitors. Placing a board with an NFC chip creates an interesting experience for each visitor, increases their stay time, thereby contributing to promoting the image and promoting local tourism development."
