World oil prices today March 23, 2024
In the world market, gasoline prices today, March 23, continued the upward trend from the previous session.
In the trading session on March 22, international oil prices recovered after continuously falling in the previous two sessions.
According to data from Oilprice, at 8:36 p.m. on March 22 (Vietnam time), Brent crude oil was trading at $86 per barrel, up $0.2, or 0.26%, from the previous session. WTI crude oil was at $81.31 per barrel, up $0.24, or 0.3%, from the previous session.
Analysts say oil prices have recovered amid concerns that geopolitical tensions could disrupt supply.
Reuters reported that the risk of disruption to maritime transport remains as the US military destroyed two anti-ship ballistic missiles and an unmanned surface vessel launched by Houthi forces from Yemen. This is considered a threat to merchant ships and alliances in the region.
Meanwhile, in Eastern Europe, tensions between Russia and Ukraine have escalated as Ihor Terekhov, mayor of Kharkov, Ukraine, said Russian missile attacks had damaged part of the city's power supply.
Meanwhile, Ukraine's actions on Russian refineries also prompted investors to trade crude at higher prices, as they feared the strikes could affect global petroleum supplies.
According to Reuters calculations, Ukraine's attacks on Russian refineries have reduced Russia's refining capacity by 7%, equivalent to about 370,500 barrels of oil per day.
Analysts say a prolonged disruption could force Russian producers to reduce supplies if they are unable to export crude and face storage constraints.
In its March short-term energy outlook report, the US Energy Information Administration (EIA) said the world crude oil market will have a deficit of about 870,000 barrels per day in the second quarter of this year.
