Many experts believe that limited supply due to adverse weather, reduced inventories and changes in farming models in major producing countries have contributed to the increase in pepper prices. However, on the first day of the week (March 10, 2025), pepper prices suddenly turned around and dropped sharply, averaging a sharp decrease of VND 2,100/kg. Currently, the purchase price fluctuates between VND 157,000 - 159,300/kg. The average pepper purchase price nationwide is at VND 157,900/kg. It is forecasted that the decrease in pepper prices is only temporary and short-term.
The Vietnamese pepper market in early 2025 is witnessing many fluctuations as farmers continue to limit sales, expecting prices to increase. Although harvesting activities are taking place strongly in key growing areas, most of the output is still retained instead of being brought to the market, reducing transaction volume.
Currently, pepper inventories in Vietnam and the world have nearly hit rock bottom, so in 2025, experts predict that pepper prices will remain high and gradually increase. The two main consumption markets in the world are still the US and China, which are also the two markets that Vietnamese pepper focuses on exploiting.

According to the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPSA), the demand for spices in the world is increasing strongly, especially in the US. The retail value of spices in this country increased from 5 billion USD before the pandemic to 7 billion USD in the past year. This trend is driven by the need to cook at home and the popularity of Asian and Mexican cuisine.
Vietnam continues to maintain its position in the pepper and spice industry thanks to proactive market research and investment in processing technology. Currently, Vietnamese spice products are present in many major markets such as India, Europe and the US. In particular, Vietnamese pepper plays an important role in Chinese restaurants, where spiciness is an indispensable element.
