Gia Lai is one of 10 localities nationwide that have successfully implemented the program of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses. According to statistics from the Steering Committee for Eliminating Temporary and Dilapidated Houses in Gia Lai Province, there are currently 8,485 houses in need of repair or new construction in the area. These houses are mainly owned by poor and near-poor households and families with revolutionary contributions. Of these, 6,828 new houses need to be built and 1,657 houses need to be repaired with a total cost of 459.390 billion VND.
Mr. Rah Lan Chung, Chairman of Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee, said: The province is determined and makes efforts to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses so that people can reach a better life and settle down. In addition to support from businesses inside and outside the province, Gia Lai saves 5% of regular local budget expenditure to support the construction of houses for people. The solid and affectionate houses built help the poor people feel warm and happy.
Joining hands with authorities at all levels of Gia Lai province, officers and soldiers of the Ministry of Public Security have supported and contributed 231 billion VND to the Program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses in the province.
In Hrak village, Dak Djrang commune, Mang Yang district, the Ministry of Public Security supported 10 families to build houses, including directly presenting a model house to Mr. Dinh Hyon's family in the village. Mr. Hyon shared: "Having a new house, from now on, my family can live in peace without having to endure the rain and wind. We thank the Party, the State and all levels and sectors for supporting poor people like me to have solid houses. We will try to rise out of poverty."
Along with that, many movements, programs and models to help people eliminate hunger and reduce poverty have been deployed by the Gia Lai Provincial Border Guard force in accordance with the characteristics of the local situation and brought about practical results.
From contributions from officers, soldiers and resources mobilized from businesses, the Gia Lai Provincial Border Guard Command has supported funding to build 10 houses in the border area (70 million VND/house).
In Ia Pnôn commune (Duc Co district), the Provincial Border Guard Command supported the construction of 3 houses and assigned the Ia Pnôn Border Guard Station to take charge. Major Nguyen Thanh Nhon - Political Commissar of Ia Pnôn Border Guard Station, informed: The unit is participating in the construction of 3 houses, of which 1 house was handed over to the family on March 3. The unit will complete the remaining two houses this March.
In addition to the funding supported by the Border Guard Command, the unit also mobilized 3 families to contribute additional funds, with a total amount of 120 million VND. In addition, the unit also supported each family with 15-20 bags of cement along with some materials and construction days.
In the new house with an area of 60 square meters, Mr. Ro Lan Tu's face (Bua village, Ia Pnôn commune, Duc Co district) was radiant, his mouth was full of thanks to the soldiers: "I am a 3/4 disabled soldier living with my youngest daughter, her husband and 3 grandchildren. When I learned that I was supported to build a new house, I was very happy. To make the new house more spacious and comfortable, my family contributed an additional 70 million VND. I don't know what else to say, thank you to the soldiers for helping my family realize our dream of having a solid house so that our family can have a more stable life."
Recently, the Ministry of National Defense also issued an official dispatch agreeing to assign Military Region 5, Army Corps 34, and Army Corps 15 to help Gia Lai people eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses. Determined to complete the goal of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses
At the third meeting of the Central Steering Committee for the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses nationwide (March 10, 2025) to assess the situation and results of the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses and to remove difficulties and obstacles to achieve the set goals. According to the report of the Ministry of Ethnic Minorities and Religions, up to now, 59/63 localities nationwide have issued plans to implement and launch emulation movements to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses in the area. Of which, Gia Lai is one of 10 localities nationwide with high results in eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses.
Specifically, by March 9, 2025, the whole province had started construction and repair of 2,242 houses (261 houses completed). Of which, 131 houses are for policy families and meritorious people (88 houses built, 43 houses repaired); 506 houses for poor and near-poor households under national target programs (477 houses built, 29 houses repaired); 1,605 houses for poor and near-poor households from the program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses (1,339 houses built, 266 houses repaired).
With the spirit of "leaving no one behind", Gia Lai province continues to mobilize the cooperation of organizations, businesses and people to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses. Chairman of Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee, Mr. Rah Lan Chung emphasized: The implementation of the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses must be timely, ensuring publicity, democracy, fairness, transparency, quality and efficiency. Localities are required to clearly define each part of the work and the specific time of implementation.
