On the afternoon of February 23, Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son chaired an online conference with localities on adjusting the National Power Development Plan for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050.
Attending and chairing at Dak Nong bridge point were comrade Ton Thi Ngoc Hanh, Member of Provincial Party Committee, Vice Chairman of Provincial People's Committee; leaders of departments, branches and sectors.
Speaking at the conference, Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son stated that the Power Plan VIII is especially important in the national planning system, contributing to ensuring energy security and building sustainable infrastructure.
However, the domestic and international context is changing, directly affecting the demand for electricity consumption and the direction of power source development in Power Plan VIII.
In particular, Vietnam aims for higher economic growth, with a rate of over 8% in 2025 and towards double digits in the 2026-2030 period.
At the same time, the complicated international political situation has caused the price of imported fuel to fluctuate strongly. Technological developments have helped reduce the cost of energy storage, creating conditions to promote the integration of wind and solar power.
“Given this reality, reviewing and adjusting the power source structure is an urgent requirement to ensure stable power supply and meet the goal of sustainable economic development,” Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son emphasized.
According to the report on some calculation results of the Project to Adjust the Power Plan VIII, the total power capacity serving domestic demand is 183,291 - 236,363 MW, an increase of about 27,747 - 80,819 MW compared to the approved Power Plan VIII.
At the conference, localities contributed many opinions related to the Project to adjust the power planning VIII such as: the ability to meet the electricity demand for local economic and social development and people's living needs in each period with the goal of socio-economic development up to 2030 reaching "double digits"; incentive mechanism for developing solar power and wind power sources; legal policies on electricity prices and attracting investors for implementation...
Concluding the conference, Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son requested the Ministry of Industry and Trade to continue to receive comments from localities to complete the dossier of the Project to adjust the 8th Power Plan to submit to the Prime Minister before February 27.
At the same time, urgently develop a list of urgent power projects to submit to competent authorities for consideration and approval on the basis of ensuring energy security in the period 2026 - 2030.
The adjustment of the VIII power plan must be in line with the Prime Minister's goals and principles, putting the national interests first. It is noted that localities need to maximize their advantages to ensure energy sources at the most reasonable cost.
