Gold price today
Early this morning (May 24), the world gold price continued to decline sharply, with spot gold falling 48.6 USD to 2,329.4 USD/ounce. Gold futures last traded at 2,330.1 USD/ounce, down 52 USD compared to early yesterday morning.
World gold prices are under strong selling pressure due to the hawkish sentiment in the minutes of the May monetary policy meeting just released. The minutes show that officials of the US Federal Reserve (Fed) are increasingly concerned about inflation.

Domestically, this morning, SJC gold price was listed at 87.95 million VND/tael for buying and 89.50 million VND/tael for selling, unchanged from yesterday morning. For gold rings, the buying price remained unchanged from yesterday morning, listed at 75.52 million VND/tael, but the selling price increased slightly to 77.22 million VND/tael.
Oil prices fell nearly 1%
At the end of the trading session on May 23, world oil prices fell nearly 1%. Specifically, Brent oil prices fell 54 cents, equivalent to 0.7%, to 81.36 USD/barrel, the lowest level since January. US WTI oil prices fell 70 cents, equivalent to 0.9%, to 76.87 USD/barrel, the lowest level in 3 months.
Domestically, retail gasoline prices on May 24: E5 RON 92 gasoline is no more than VND 22,277/liter; RON 95-III gasoline is no more than VND 23,213/liter; diesel is no more than VND 19,837/liter; kerosene is no more than VND 19,902/liter; fuel oil is no more than VND 17,513/kg.
Inspect 4 gold companies and 2 banks
The inspection subjects include four gold companies: SJC, PNJ, DOJI, Bao Tin Minh Chau; two banks: Tien Phong and Eximbank. The inspection will focus on compliance with legal regulations on gold trading activities; on anti-money laundering; inspection of tax compliance, legal regulations on accounting, preparation and use of invoices and documents.
The inspection period is from January 1, 2020 to May 15, 2024. If necessary, the inspection can be conducted before or after the above period.
Credit support for import and export activities

Many forecast that the increase in pepper prices may last for the next 10 years and this commodity will be expensive. In the world market, the supply of pepper is limited, the demand is increasing strongly, pushing the price up and the goods are more expensive than before.
Currently, the export price of black pepper remains at 4,600 USD and 4,700 USD/ton; while the export price of white pepper is anchored at 6,600 USD/ton.
In the Central Highlands, the price of this type of grain increased to 115,000-116,000 VND/kg; while in Binh Phuoc and Ba Ria - Vung Tau, the price of pepper fluctuated from 116,000-117,000 VND/kg. Compared to the same period last year, the price of pepper increased by 54.7%.
Deploying a pilot inventory of public assets in 2 ministries and 3 localities
Accordingly, the units conducting the trial inventory include the Ministry of Finance (State Treasury system), a number of units under the Ministry of Transport, Hanoi, Da Nang and Hai Phong cities.
In Hanoi, the inventory subjects belong to the Department of Transport, Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs, Hai Ba Trung District, and Gia Lam District.
In Da Nang City, the inventory subjects belong to the Department of Transport, Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Hai Chau District, and Hoa Vang District.
Hai Phong City, inventory subjects belong to the Department of Transport, Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, Ngo Quyen district, Thuy Nguyen district.
Time to conduct actual trial inventory from May 20 to June 10, 2024; report and summarize inventory results from June 10 to 30, 2024.
