The OCOP program has been spreading strongly. Most localities develop OCOP products associated with raw material areas, focusing on key, typical, and endemic products of the province in the direction of VietGap, organic, and ecological agricultural production, ensuring food safety, traceability, and building value chains in the direction of circular economy, green and sustainable OCOP. To date, the province has 209 OCOP products, including 69 4-star products.
With the attention, orientation and support of all levels and sectors in the province, many OCOP products have participated in the export chain, contributing to increasing the proportion of agricultural and handicraft export turnover of the province.
Many OCOP products of the province have affirmed their brands in the export market such as: fashion items, interior decoration items such as straw bags, water hyacinth bags, hats, handbags, mirror frames, photo frames, water hyacinth tables and chairs of Vina Handicrafts Company Limited in Quang Thien Commune (Kim Son); "Grinded Sweet Corn" product of Asia Food Joint Stock Company meeting 4-star OCOP standards (present in nearly 20 countries and territories); crispy rice products of Dai Long Production and Trading Company Limited; embroidery products of Green Sun Embroidery Company Limited.
In addition, many products have export potential such as golden flower tea, Bo Bat ceramics, products of Sinh Duoc Cooperative, etc. and many OCOP products have become local branded gifts. Many enterprises producing OCOP products in the province are making efforts to expand the market towards export.
Mr. Pham Tien Duat, Deputy Director of Vu Gia Medicinal Materials Company Limited, said: The product "Cuc Phuong Golden Flower Tea" has been granted a 4-star OCOP certificate by Ninh Binh province and is an "Outstanding rural industrial product of Ninh Binh province" in 2021. In the coming time, the Company will expand the raw material area, standardize the selection of varieties, diversify products, upgrade designs, and process according to product quality standards to expand the domestic market and access the international market. Thereby, helping to maximize the potential and strengths of the locality, spreading the product brand not only of Nho Quan district but also of Ninh Binh province.
In order to strengthen connections, search and expand agricultural export markets, in recent years, Ninh Binh province has also paid special attention to foreign affairs, expanding international exchanges and cooperation in the fields of economics, culture and tourism, thereby calling for and attracting businesses to invest in the locality, opening up opportunities for Ninh Binh agricultural products to reach the world market.
Specifically, the Department of Industry and Trade has stepped up the implementation of industrial promotion and trade promotion activities to support enterprises, cooperatives, and business households in the province to apply new and advanced technologies in production and business. Organize Industry and Trade Fairs, connect import-export enterprises, etc. At the same time, guide enterprises, cooperatives, production and business establishments to participate in trade fairs, exhibitions, market stabilization programs, and supply-demand connection programs organized by provinces and cities.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Lan Anh, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, also said: On the basis of clearly identifying the strengths and characteristics of each ecological region, the agricultural sector has promoted support for building agricultural product brands, building collective brands, geographical indications, and tracing product origins; promoting trade promotion; focusing on training, knowledge and skills to develop markets for entities, supporting and forming product lines as gifts associated with local history and culture.
According to the report of the Department of Industry and Trade, in 2024, the export turnover of the province's handicraft group reached 4.1 million USD. The province's handicrafts are mostly exported to the US and European markets, but throughout the year, these markets were greatly affected by the global economic crisis, so the export turnover of this item decreased by 16.3% compared to 2023. In 2024, the export turnover of agricultural products reached 51.6 million USD, exceeding the annual plan by 2.2%. The province's processed agricultural products continued to be exported to demanding markets such as Japan, the EU and the markets of the Eurasian Economic Union countries.
Although still affected by the global economic crisis, this group of products continues to maintain steady growth, up 2.2% compared to 2023. Thus, it can be seen that the group of handicraft and agricultural processing export products is the strength of the locality. However, how to get OCOP products to deeply participate in the export chain is a difficult problem. Because according to the assessment of professional agencies, currently the consumption of OCOP products still faces certain difficulties such as few processed products and small-scale production.
In particular, according to many OCOP subjects, the limitation in marketing OCOP products is one of the main reasons why the province's OCOP products participating in the export chain are only "countable on the fingers". Enterprises producing OCOP products also expressed that "Although the products are of high quality, the limited marketing leads to the majority of products still not being able to reach distributors and consumers at home and abroad".
To prepare a solid foundation for OCOP products to be exported, in the coming time, the Department of Industry and Trade will continue to proactively coordinate with agencies of the Ministry of Industry and Trade to closely monitor and update information from export markets, thereby promptly updating information for businesses on policy changes and tastes so that businesses can proactively shift production according to market demand.
At the same time, the Department of Industry and Trade will also coordinate with the Farmers' Association and the Cooperative Union to enhance updating on integration knowledge, foreign trade operations, foreign trade contracts, etc. through training sessions for OCOP producers.
In addition, the leaders of the Department of Agriculture and Environment also said that it is necessary to continue to strengthen support for OCOP establishments and entities to develop, perfect products and standardize documents, creating conditions for bringing OCOP products into modern distribution channels, retail systems and distribution points. At the same time, promote propaganda, trade investment contacts, introduce products through the media... Thereby, enhancing the competitiveness and economic value of OCOP products.
