The leader of Ban Cong Commune People's Committee said that frost appearing in mid-March is a rare phenomenon because Ta Xua mountain peak often has frost in the middle of winter (December, January).
Ta Xua Peak is 2,865 m above sea level. This is the second time this year that ice has appeared on this peak. Previously, this phenomenon was first recorded on January 11.
According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, the North is being affected by an increasing cold front, so the weather continues to be cold, with some mountainous areas experiencing severe cold. The lowest temperature in this cold front is generally between 13 and 16 degrees Celsius, with some places in the high mountains below 10 degrees Celsius.
Frost occurs when the ground temperature drops to 0 degrees Celsius, while the air temperature is above 0 degrees Celsius. Favorable conditions for frost and frost to form are at night the sky must be from little to clear clouds, light wind or calm wind leading to large ground heat radiation.
Frost usually appears at night and lasts until 7-8am the next day, in higher mountainous areas it can last until 8-9am.
