Ukrainian soldiers retreat in Donetsk; Russia crushes border attacks... are notable news that will be in the Russia-Ukraine war news bulletin on the afternoon of March 19.
Russia thwarts Ukraine border attacks
Updating the situation of the Russia-Ukraine war, RT news agency quoted the Russian Ministry of Defense as saying that on March 18, the Ukrainian army launched five attacks on the border villages of Demidovka and Prilesye in the Belgorod region. The Ukrainian campaign involved 200 soldiers and 29 pieces of equipment, including 5 tanks. According to Russian authorities, the attacks were all repelled, causing Kiev to lose 60 soldiers, at least one tank, 3 military vehicles and 7 other armored vehicles.

The Russian Defense Ministry accused Ukraine of trying to create a negative context for the phone call between President Vladimir Putin and his US counterpart Donald Trump. However, Andrii Kovalenko, head of the Ukrainian Center for Countering Disinformation, denied the accusation.
Video circulating online shows Ukrainian tanks and several US-made Bradley infantry vehicles overcoming anti-tank obstacles installed on the border with Russia. These vehicles were hit by artillery, while some others hit mines and were attacked by unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
The vehicles involved in the attack were marked with a white triangle, which was used by the Ukrainian military during its offensive in Russia’s Kursk border region last August. Russia’s Belgorod region borders Ukraine’s Sumy and Kharkiv provinces. The Belgorod region’s government has repeatedly accused Kiev of attacking the region during the more than three-year conflict between the two countries.
Ukraine retreats en masse in Donetsk
The Kyiv Independent newspaper quoted Ukrainian General Serhii Naiev, commander of a Ukrainian tactical group, as saying on March 18 that Kiev forces had withdrawn from a frontline area in Donetsk, eastern Ukraine, to preserve troops and improve defenses.
"This allows us not only to preserve our forces but also to improve our defense capabilities. Russia is suffering losses and we can act more effectively," he added. It was not clear which part of the Donetsk frontline he was referring to.

Unnamed sources told Ukrainska Pravda that the withdrawal had been going on since February and involved units stationed in the Dachne, Zelenivka and Andriivka areas, north of the village of Velyka Novosilka. The Ukrainian troops stationed in these locations withdrew to avoid being surrounded in the so-called “Korakhove pocket”.
Currently, a Ukrainian military spokesman refused to comment on the above information.
Russia stops attacks on Ukrainian energy facilities
Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered the Russian military to stop attacks on Ukrainian energy sites immediately after a phone call with US President Donald Trump, the Kremlin said, TASS news agency reported.
"President Putin supported Mr. Trump's idea of Russia and Ukraine jointly stopping attacks on energy infrastructure for 30 days. The president gave the appropriate orders to the military," the Kremlin said in a statement.
"The Russian president also responded constructively to President Donald Trump's idea of implementing the previously discussed initiative related to navigation safety in the Black Sea," the statement said, adding that the leaders also agreed to start negotiations on the issue.
President Putin and his US counterpart Donald Trump had a 90-minute phone call on March 18 to discuss a ceasefire agreement in Ukraine in an effort to promote peace.
The Kremlin chief stressed that any agreement must be sustainable and long-term, addressing the root causes of the crisis while taking into account Russia's legitimate security interests.
