Proposing China to continue expanding imports of Vietnamese goods and agricultural and aquatic products

On December 1, at the Government Guest House, Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son held talks with Politburo member, Director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, Foreign Minister of the People's Republic of China Wang Yi, on the occasion of comrade Wang Yi's visit to Vietnam to organize the 15th meeting of the Vietnam-China Bilateral Cooperation Steering Committee.

At the talks, in a sincere, friendly and open atmosphere, the two sides had in-depth exchanges of opinions on the Vietnam-China bilateral relationship and measures to further promote the overall coordinating role of the two countries' foreign ministries in implementing the high-level common perception and the results achieved at the 15th meeting of the Vietnam-China Bilateral Cooperation Steering Committee; continue to promote the deepening and further elevation of bilateral relations, making positive contributions to peace, cooperation and development in the region and the world.

The two sides expressed their delight and appreciation for the stable development and positive achievements in the Vietnam-China comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership; agreed that the two Foreign Ministries should continue to closely coordinate, promote and coordinate in preparing carefully for high-level and all-level exchanges and contacts in the coming time; and strengthen and improve the effectiveness of cooperation mechanisms between ministries, sectors and localities of the two countries.

Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son suggested that China continue to expand imports of Vietnamese goods and agricultural and aquatic products; strengthen transport infrastructure connectivity, especially railways and roads; actively discuss and soon find solutions to resolve pending projects; and create procedural conditions for Vietnam to soon establish Trade Promotion Offices in some Chinese localities.

Minister Wang Yi affirmed that developing relations with Vietnam is a top priority in China's neighborly diplomacy. The Chinese Foreign Ministry is willing to closely coordinate with the Vietnamese Foreign Ministry to implement the important common perceptions of the leaders of the two Parties and two countries; and to coordinate to promote high-level visits in the coming time.

Minister Wang Yi suggested that the two sides strengthen the strategic connection between the “Belt and Road” initiative and the “Two Corridors, One Belt” framework, promote economic-trade and investment cooperation; cultural, educational and tourism exchanges; and closely coordinate in international forums.

Regarding the territorial border issue, the two sides agreed to continue to coordinate to effectively implement the three legal documents on the Vietnam-China land border; strengthen border management; accelerate the opening and upgrading of a number of agreed border gate pairs; and effectively implement the pilot operation of the Ban Gioc Waterfall Scenic Area (Vietnam) - Detian (China).

Regarding the East Sea issue, the two sides agreed to effectively implement the high-level common perception on controlling and properly handling disagreements at sea, not allowing them to affect the good development of relations between the two Parties and two countries.

Minister Bui Thanh Son requested that all levels and sectors of both sides respect each other's legitimate and legal rights and interests established in accordance with international law, especially the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS); and together with ASEAN countries promote negotiations and soon reach a substantive, effective, and efficient Code of Conduct in the East Sea (COC) that is in accordance with international law and the 1982 UNCLOS.
