According to a recent study by SCOPEinsight, up to 85% of investors consider ESG factors in their investments and 70% of consumers make purchases based on ESG (Environmental – Social – Governance) concerns. Meanwhile, as the AFN World Agriculture information site said, 17% of global greenhouse gas emissions come from agriculture. Therefore, agricultural businesses cannot be excluded from the trend of ESG implementation. This inevitable path is challenging but also brings many opportunities for them.
Rooftop solar power systems at TH farms and factories have been deployed since 2020, producing more than 7 million kWh per year.
Among high-tech agricultural enterprises in Vietnam, TH Group is considered one of the pioneers in implementing ESG, closely linking business and development strategies with environmental, social and governance factors. This is clearly demonstrated through the green economic model - circular economy oriented towards sustainable development that TH applies, along with many activities accompanying and supporting people and communities in localities where TH projects are located. Especially at the TH farm cluster in Nghia Dan - Nghe An, a closed high-tech concentrated farm cluster that has maintained the world's largest record since 2020 as recognized by the World Records Union (WorldKings).
In Nghe An alone, TH has about 15 giant irrigation machines like this. Cultivation on the fields all apply high technology and modern machinery.
Ms. Hoang Thi Thanh Thuy, Director of Sustainable Development of TH Group, said that TH's investment projects focus on applying high technology, science and technology and management science intertwined to create agricultural products with output and quality in the direction of sustainable development and benefits for health.
In comparison with ESG criteria, TH builds a sustainable development policy consisting of 6 main pillars, linked to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations (SDGs); namely: Nutrition and Health, Environment, Education, People, Community, Animal Welfare. Through that, TH ensures that its business activities bring benefits to all stakeholders, of which the most important are the environment and community.
Reduce emissions, protect the environment
The environment has always been a matter of special concern for TH, as demonstrated by the motto "Cherishing Mother Nature". In line with the commitment of the Vietnamese Government at COP 26, TH Group expressed its determination that its farms and factories in its closed production chain will achieve net zero emissions by 2050.
To achieve the goal, Ms. Hoang Thi Thanh Thuy said, TH applies synchronous high-tech solutions in production to reduce emissions, most notably in the fields of plastic reduction and green energy production.
TH reduces the weight of plastic bottles and the thickness of the labels covering the bottles, thereby significantly reducing the amount of plastic released into the environment each year.
TH Group is a co-founding member of organizations such as the Vietnam Packaging Recycling Alliance (PRO Vietnam), the Vietnam Business Alliance for the Environment (VB4E), and the Alliance of Retailers to Reduce Consumption of Disposable Plastic Bags. The company has implemented many effective solutions to reduce plastic. Such as reducing 50% of the number of disposable yogurt spoons that come with TH true YOGURT yogurt products; completely removing plastic shrink wrap on the caps of TH true WATER purified water bottles; reducing the weight of plastic bottle packaging; reducing the thickness of bottle labels; promoting the collection and recycling of used packaging; encouraging customers to use canvas bags; using more environmentally friendly bioplastic bags, etc. With this series of actions, TH contributes to reducing hundreds of tons of plastic each year.
Rooftop solar power systems at TH farms and factories across the country have been deployed since 2020, producing more than 7 million kWh per year, equivalent to reducing emissions by about 4,500-5,000 tons of CO2, meeting about 10% of total internal electricity consumption. TH plans to increase solar power output in the coming years, aiming to meet 15% of total electricity consumption.
Greenma organic fertilizer is produced by TH from raw materials such as waste from dairy farms.
Waste and wastewater treatment at TH Group is also considered a typical high-tech circular model. Wastewater from the livestock farming process is treated with modern technology until it meets the standards of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment before being used for irrigation or returned to nature. Solid organic matter from the farm is treated with the world's leading modern technology, becoming a valuable resource for the production of biological buffers for cowsheds and organic fertilizers. Up to now, not only meeting the needs for cultivation at TH Group's units, Greenma brand organic fertilizer has been introduced to the market with two main types: 25% organic fertilizer and 35% pellets - a source of nutrients for all types of soil and nutrition for all types of plants.
Creating livelihoods for the community – "For true happiness"
With many expansion projects in many fields from livestock, milk processing to wood and sugar production, TH Group can support and involve thousands of local people in the production chain, especially in the first "link": supplying raw materials. More than 20,000 farmers supply straw, corn, and sawdust to TH dairy farms in Nghe An. Nearly 19,000 farmers supply sugarcane to Nghe An Sugarcane Factory - NASU. More than 15,000 farmers supply raw materials to TH's wood processing factory. Nearly 1,000 households are linked to supply fresh milk and other raw materials to TH in Da Lat - Lam Dong, ... Ms. Hoang Thi Thanh Thuy proudly emphasized that these are "speaking" numbers about the social responsibility of the enterprise towards the community.
Farmers in Nghe An grow biomass corn to supply TH Group as feed for dairy cows.
TH Group founder, Labor Hero Thai Huong, has always been concerned with establishing cooperatives to link production and livestock farming in areas where TH has projects, which are often border areas of the country, where people's lives are still difficult. She believes that improving the livelihoods of local people is not only in line with the Group's vision and mission of "For True Happiness" but also aims to gradually improve the quality of life of local workers, contributing to ensuring social security.
Not only pioneering the application of high technology to unlock the potential of Vietnamese agriculture, TH Group also makes strong commitments and responsibilities to the environment and community, implementing ESG standards in its field of operation. TH's continuous efforts are the way the enterprise actively contributes to the process of building a harmonious and sustainable common future.
