Functional forces patrol and inspect forest fire prevention and control
Situation and risks
An Giang has a diverse terrain with many mountainous areas, grasslands and melaleuca forests. In particular, the Bay Nui area has rugged terrain and dense vegetation, which is the place with the highest risk of forest fires. In addition, climate change with high temperatures and reduced rainfall also contributes to increasing the risk of forest fires. In the province, the forest area is mainly concentrated in border districts, such as Chau Doc city, Tri Ton district, Tinh Bien town and Thoai Son district. Of which, special-use forests are over 1,832 hectares, protective forests are over 11,445 hectares and production forests are over 3,542 hectares. Compared to other provinces and cities, although the forest area in An Giang is not large, it plays an important role in protection, promoting socio-economic development, protecting biodiversity, national defense - security and borders.
Since the beginning of 2025, An Giang has not had any forest fires. However, the dry season of 2025 is coming, bringing with it a high risk of forest fires, especially in areas with large areas of forest and flammable vegetation. Currently, the hot weather is continuing; in particular, the forecast level of forest fires in the province is level IV - level V (dangerous and extremely dangerous levels), so the risk of forest fires is very high. On the other hand, in some localities, people have secretly entered the forest and used fire to catch bees for honey, increasing the risk of forest fires. Recognizing the importance of protecting forest resources, the government and people of An Giang have been implementing many drastic measures to effectively prevent and control forest fires.
Strengthening prevention and control measures
In order to be proactive in forest fire prevention and control in the province during the peak of the dry season in 2025, minimizing damage caused by forest fires, the Chairman of the An Giang Provincial People's Committee requested relevant agencies, units, People's Committees of districts, towns and cities with forests to urgently disseminate and continue to resolutely and effectively deploy forest fire prevention and control measures nationwide and directive documents of competent authorities on forest fire prevention and control in accordance with their assigned functions, tasks and powers. Along with that, provincial authorities and People's Committees of districts, towns and cities with forests strictly implement the directive documents of the Central and provincial governments on forest fire prevention and control; strengthen inspection and supervision of forest fire prevention and control, considering this a key and regular task during the peak of the dry season in 2025; inspect, promptly detect and strictly handle violations of current forestry laws. When a forest fire occurs in the area, promptly mobilize forces or advise competent authorities to mobilize forces, equipment, tools, and means of fire prevention and fighting to participate in fighting forest fires. Strengthen the investigation, identify the cause and perpetrator of forest fires to strictly handle them in accordance with the provisions of law; coordinate with local police forces in handling forest fires. At the same time, inspect, urge, and guide on fire prevention and fighting work and check fire prevention and fighting safety.
During the inspection process, if violations of the law on fire prevention and control are detected, a record must be made for strict handling in accordance with the law. When a forest fire occurs, promptly mobilize forces to handle the forest fire situation, not allowing it to spread or become larger; after a forest fire, promptly investigate to determine the cause and the cause of the fire and strictly handle the violating organizations and individuals and have a plan for forest restoration. Step up propaganda and warning of forest fires during the peak of the dry season; coordinate with media agencies to disseminate and educate the law to raise people's awareness and responsibility in implementing regulations on forest management and protection, fire prevention and control, and effectively implement the "4 on-site" motto in forest fire prevention and control. Forest owners proactively review the fire prevention and control plans that have been developed, handle the ground cover, and reduce combustible materials in forests assigned to manage with high risk of forest fires; Identify specific key areas at high risk of forest fires to arrange human and material resources to be ready to prevent and promptly handle forest fires. Organize forces to be on duty 24/7 during the dry season...
With proactive and drastic measures in forest fire prevention and control, An Giang is determined to firmly protect forest resources, contributing to environmental protection and sustainable socio-economic development.
