This afternoon, the Government held an online conference on adjusting the National Power Development Plan for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050 (also known as Power Plan VIII). Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the Planning Adjustment Appraisal Council Bui Thanh Son chaired the conference. Comrade Tran Bao Ha - Member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee chaired the Ha Tinh bridge.

The total power capacity serving domestic demand according to the adjusted Power Plan VIII is more than 183,000 to 236,000 MW, an increase of about 27,000 to nearly 81,000 MW compared to the previously approved Power Plan VIII. It is expected that Ninh Thuan Nuclear Power Plant 1 and 2, with a total capacity of 6,000 to 6,400 MW, will be put into operation in the 2030-2035 period; by 2050, the system will need to add about 4,500-5,000 MW of nuclear power in the North and about 3,000 MW in the Central region. The revised Power Plan VIII also strongly shifts from fossil fuels to new energy sources and renewable energy to reduce environmental pollution, contributing to helping Vietnam achieve its goal of net zero emissions by 2050. At the conference, localities proposed to add and adjust a number of power projects with specific scales and capacities for the Ministry of Industry and Trade to supplement and update the Project to Adjust the Power Plan VIII.
For Ha Tinh, it is recommended that the Ministry of Industry and Trade consider updating and adjusting the Vung Ang III LNG Thermal Power Plant Project as an important power source project prioritized for investment in the 2021 - 2030 period to promptly replace projects that are behind schedule or cannot be implemented in the VIII Power Plan; Update the list of grid connection projects serving the import of electricity from the Cha Lo and The Light wind power plants in Laos to Vietnam to connect to the Ha Tinh 500kV transformer station in the adjusted VIII Power Plan; Adjust the construction progress of the Can Loc 220kV transmission line and transformer station in the 2026 - 2028 period.
Concluding the conference, Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son requested: The Ministry of Industry and Trade needs to continue to supplement and complete the dossier in accordance with the procedures and regulations of the law to submit to the Prime Minister before February 25. The planning must maximize the advantages of localities, link the power grid with neighboring countries, ensure feasibility to contribute to solving the power shortage. Localities closely coordinate with the Ministry of Industry and Trade during the implementation process; support units and contractors in the implementation of works and power projects. Strive to complete the goal of net zero emissions by 2050.
