On the occasion of the 78th anniversary of the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (September 2, 1945 - September 2, 2023), more than 80 outstanding paintings of Vietnamese landscapes were selected and introduced by the Vietnam Museum of Fine Arts at the thematic exhibition "My Country". In particular, motion graphics technology was incorporated for the first time in the exhibition, enhancing the experience and emotions of the viewers.

The theme of the country has always been a source of creative inspiration for many art forms such as literature, music, cinema, theater... and there have been many successful classic works of art on this theme. For fine arts, the country is a sacred calling, an endless source of emotion that every artist always wants to express their respect with all their feelings and talents. Those were the shares of Director of the Vietnam Fine Arts Museum Nguyen Anh Minh to delegates, painters, and domestic and foreign visitors at the opening ceremony of the exhibition.

The distinctive and diverse beauty of Vietnam's regions is vividly and vividly depicted through the works of famous Vietnamese painters created between 1930 and 2007. During those seven decades, each period and individual brought a unique, rich and diverse style of national art. Most of them have made their mark in Vietnam's modern art, from the Indochina Fine Arts generation such as Luong Xuan Nhi, Nguyen Van Ty, Tran Dinh Tho, Huynh Van Thuan, Phan Ke An..., to Resistance Fine Arts such as Luu Cong Nhan, Dao Duc... and later generations of painters such as Duong Ngoc Canh, Tran Thanh Ngoc, Nguyen Thanh Chau, Do Duc, Le Van Hai, Do Thi Ninh...

Viewers seem to embark on a journey of discovery of Vietnam through a series of paintings spanning from north to south, from the mountains to the plains and coasts, from the Central Highlands to the islands in the middle of the ocean, including both natural scenery and scenes of human life.

Through the skillful lines, the audience can immediately recognize famous landscapes such as Ha Long Bay (Quang Ninh), Dong Van Stone Plateau (Ha Giang), Huong River (Thua Thien Hue), Ban Gioc Waterfall (Cao Bang), Hung Temple (Phu Tho), Can Tho Floating Market... Besides, some works do not have specific place names but still highlight unique details, evoking familiar and nostalgic feelings such as village fields, old town streets, coconut rows, duckweed ponds, terraced fields, stilt houses...

On this occasion, the public has the opportunity to approach, admire and learn about many paintings of high historical and artistic value. For example, the works: "Hanoi Village in Lam Dong Economic Zone" (Pham Duc Phong, Oil on canvas, 1978); "Boat Wharf in Can Tho" (Dang Chung, Oil on canvas, 1981); "Dawn on the Central Highlands Mountains" (Xu Man, Lacquer, 1975); "Morning on the Perfume River" (Luong Xuan Nhi, Oil on canvas, 1980); "Cac Mac Mountain" (Tran Dinh Tho, Silk, 1976); "Phu Quoc Sea Village" (Do Son, Silk, 1980)...

As an artist whose paintings were displayed at the exhibition, artist Do Duc (78 years old) expressed his emotion when seeing the exhibition receiving the attention and appreciation of many audiences of all ages. The artist from Thai Nguyen is also a cultural researcher, possessing a huge archive of documents on costumes and customs of ethnic minorities in the northern mountainous region. He said that the exhibition is especially valuable because it evokes many memories of the difficult but glorious period, each work is imbued with the love for the homeland and the Fatherland of many generations of Vietnamese artists.

After viewing the original works in the traditional way, the next room is a new, unique space for the audience.

Eight works are projected digitally in large format, applying advanced motion graphics that make viewers feel like they are "living" in the context of the painting.

Exclamations and applause resounded endlessly when the lacquer painting "Remembering a Northwest Afternoon" (1950) by famous painter Phan Ke An appeared with the wind blowing, causing the forest trees to sway gently, clouds floating in the bright afternoon sun, and the silhouettes of soldiers marching, both brave and poetic.

Similarly, the watercolor painting "Ban Gioc Waterfall" by famous painter Nguyen Van Ty becomes a beautiful film about nature when the majestic waterfall flows from the rocky rapids...

Dr. Dang Thi Phong Lan (Vietnam University of Fine Arts) believes that digital works can never replace original works, but still have many unique values such as transforming small-sized images into a large space, more sparkling colors, more vivid subjects... The application of technology shows that traditional values are always the foundation, a rich source of inspiration for the development, adaptation and integration of Vietnamese culture.

Architect Dinh Viet Phuong, representative of the unit coordinating with the museum to implement the effect, said that the 3D team spent many months researching and selecting suitable details for the movement. The digitization aims to attract more audiences, especially to instill in the younger generation a love and appreciation for fine art heritage.

Emphasizing the superiority of digital technology, Mr. Nguyen Anh Minh stated that this is a new solution and direction in displaying and promoting fine art works without being limited by space, time, or preservation conditions.

"More opportunities will open up for promoting the value of fine art works, especially precious works and national treasures, which will appear more frequently and reach more domestic and international art lovers," said Mr. Minh.

The exhibition "My Country" is open to the public at the Vietnam Fine Arts Museum (66 Nguyen Thai Hoc, Hanoi) until September 10.
