Pangasius is a key aquatic species of Hau Giang province, has high economic value, and is resistant to environmental conditions.
Therefore, many households in the commune have taken advantage of available conditions to raise this fish breed. A typical example is the commercial snakehead fish farming model of Nguyen Van Chac household, Hamlet 10, Vi Trung commune (Vi Thuy district, Hau Giang province) which has brought quite high income to the family, contributing to the development of the household economy.

It is known that he has nearly 6 years of experience in raising commercial snakehead fish. At first, he encountered many difficulties in techniques as well as breeds and disease management.
But after a period of research, study, experience exchange and technical advice from commune and district technical officials, he has now been proactive in seed sources, food and disease management.
With a pond surface area of 1,500m2, Mr. Chac raises 70,000 striped snakehead fish and 10,000 striped snakehead fish.

After nearly 6 years of working with the model of raising snakehead fish, Mr. Chac said, "To raise snakehead fish effectively and increase profits, first of all, farmers need to choose healthy, uniform-sized fish from reputable fish breeding facilities. The fish must be quarantined.
To increase efficiency, during the process of raising specialties, he also regularly adds vitamin C, digestive enzymes, and multivitamins to the food for snakehead fish.
In particular, it is necessary to periodically prevent common fish diseases such as parasitic diseases, hemorrhagic diseases... In addition, farmers must perform good pond sanitation, and maintain pond water environment factors and pH at appropriate ranges.
Every day when feeding fish, you must check the amount of excess or insufficient food to adjust accordingly, avoid overfeeding fish, excess food makes the pond water dirty, polluted, which is a favorable condition for pathogens to arise..."
In addition to the experience accumulated over the years, Mr. Chac also regularly visits and attends technical training courses and seminars on raising snakehead fish organized by various sectors to learn new experiences. Thanks to his firm grasp of the processes and techniques for caring for snakehead fish in ponds, his fishing seasons have been quite effective.
The model of raising commercial snakehead fish in ponds currently brings high economic efficiency, creating conditions for farmers in the commune to develop their household economy sustainably and contribute to the construction of new rural areas in the locality.
