The Nhon Hai Fishing Festival was formed before the 18th century and still exists today.
According to Cultural Researcher Nguyen Van Ngoc, the Nhon Hai Fishing Festival is one of 22 Fishing Festival heritages that have been inventoried and included in the list of intangible cultural heritage (Results of the provincial-level scientific project on "Research on the Fishing Festival in Binh Dinh" were accepted in Decision No. 286/QDD-SKHCN dated September 20, 2019 of the Director of the Department of Science and Technology of Binh Dinh).
This intangible cultural heritage was formed and passed down before the 18th century in Nhon Hai. In recent times, this festival has actively contributed to the formation of a community tourism model in the locality.

Normally, the Festival usually lasts about 3 days and nights (from the 11th to the 13th of the second lunar month every year), with many rituals and cultural features that have been passed down through the centuries, imbued with the spiritual values of coastal people. In order to preserve, maintain, enhance and promote the value of the Festival, the Management Board of Nhon Hai Commune Fishing Village has organized a meeting to collect opinions from the fishing community to propose a dossier to register the Cau Ngu Festival as a national intangible cultural heritage.
Mr. Nguyen Khac Vu (71 years old), Head of the Nhon Hai Fishing Village Management Board, shared: Building a dossier to propose registering the Nhon Hai Fishing Village Festival to submit to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism for inclusion in the list of national intangible cultural heritage is extremely necessary. This not only aims to preserve but also contributes to honoring cultural values, combining with the development of the marine economy. Through the Festival, the locality will introduce to tourists a unique type of heritage and beautiful landscapes in Nhon Hai peninsula.
Many unique cultural features of coastal fishermen are recreated in the Fishing Festival.
According to Mr. Le Cong Hoa (61 years old), a member of the Nhon Hai Commune Fishing Village Management Board: The fishing village community in Nhon Hai Commune, especially the artisans who are holding the heritage of the Cau Ngu Festival, unanimously support the preparation of a scientific dossier to propose including the Cau Ngu Festival in the list of national intangible cultural heritage.
Chairman of Nhon Hai Commune People's Committee, Mr. Do Cao Thang said: The festival rituals not only carry spiritual and cultural values but are also valuable documents that fully and truthfully reflect the lives of fishermen that have been cultivated over many generations. In response to the wishes of fishermen, the Commune People's Committee has submitted a document to Quy Nhon City People's Committee to unify the policy of submitting to Binh Dinh Provincial People's Committee to agree to allow Nhon Hai Commune to implement a plan to establish a scientific dossier for the Nhon Hai Fishing Festival to be recognized as a national intangible cultural heritage.
“Registering the festival as a national intangible cultural heritage not only helps preserve traditional cultural values but also promotes local economic and tourism development, helping Quy Nhon City affirm its role as one of the cultural centers of the Central Coast region,” Mr. Thang emphasized.

Talking to reporters about the progress of the dossier to propose the registration of the Nhon Hai Fishing Festival as a national intangible cultural heritage, Mr. Phan Tuan Hoang, Head of the Department of Culture and Information of Quy Nhon City, said: After receiving the dossier from the People's Committee of Nhon Hai Commune, the People's Committee of Quy Nhon City is directing the relevant agencies to consult with experts, researchers and fishermen to take the next steps in completing the scientific dossier for the Nhon Hai Fishing Festival, and submitting it to the competent authority for approval. "However, completing the dossier and submitting it to the competent authorities requires time and careful research, similar to the registration of the Xuong Ly Fishing Festival in the past," Mr. Hoang added.
