The moment her name was announced as the winner, Nhu Van burst into tears. The reigning Miss Universe, Ashley Melendez, from Puerto Rico, crowned her amid cheers from the audience.
The new Miss said: "I am truly happy to be the first Vietnamese beauty to be crowned at the contest. I am very grateful for the audience's attention and support, especially in my home country."
The first and second runner-up titles went to contestants from Jamaica and Puerto Rico, respectively.
In the final, Nhu Van entered the top 20, then the top 12 alongside contestants from Belarus, Czech Republic, Ecuador, Indonesia, Jamaica, Venezuela, Philippines, Puerto Rico, Switzerland, USA and Japan.
In the evening gown competition with the top 12, she chose a design by designer Do Long, which was embellished with golden crystals, inspired by the image of rice grains on the vast fields of Vietnam. On stage, she impressed with a beautiful dress turn, showing off her sexy body.
Entering the presentation round, she received the keyword "Amazing Thailand". Nhu Van said: "Amazing Thailand is not only a slogan of Thai tourism but also represents life here - the places, food, natural landscapes and most especially the people.
The people of Thailand welcomed us with a big smile and an open heart. I love you, Thailand." She then entered the top 5 finalists along with the US, Jamaica, Philippines and Puerto Rico.
In the behavioral round, Nhu Van expressed her opinion on the saying: "You can kill me with hate but I will still rise like the air". The beauty said that she had wasted a large part of her life running away from anything that could hurt her.
"But standing here today, being myself and empowered, I realize that my legacy is not just for me but for all other women. At any age, you can pursue your dreams, do what you want, as long as you believe in yourself and love yourself before loving others," she said.
Như Vân made it into the top 3 along with two contestants from Jamaica and Puerto Rico. They answered the question: "The motto of Miss Global is: 'Empower, embrace, embody'. Please share with us what you experienced the most during your two weeks of participating in the competition and what you learned from being a part of Miss Global?
Nhu Van replied: "In the two weeks I spent with the empowered women here, I learned how to empower myself, step out of my comfort zone and become who I want to be, pursue my dreams.
The second thing is to promote my beloved country - Vietnam, to show everyone our cultural diversity and love. That is what makes me very proud.
The third thing is to embrace your inner beauty. Beauty may fade but love and legacy are eternal. The last thing I want to share is the sisterhood at Miss Global. It is something I feel proud to be a part of."
Nguyen Dinh Nhu Van was born in 1991, from Lam Dong. The beauty is 1m74 tall, with measurements of 90-63-91 cm. Nhu Van has been working as a professional model for many years, and won the runner-up prize of The New Mentor - All-round Model 2023.
She also took on the role of coach of the reality show The Next Gentleman - Perfect Gentleman 2024 , and catwalk director of Miss Vietnam, Miss World Vietnam.
On February 16, at the event announcing Vietnamese contestants for Miss Global, Nhu Van suddenly confirmed that she is single and a single mother of two daughters. The model revealed that she and her second daughter's father have never registered their marriage.
She confided about her fulfilling life with her two children: "My two children always support and are by my side on every journey."
Miss Global, held for the first time in 2011. According to the rules, the contestant age limit is from 18-35, allowing married women with children to participate. The contest promotes feminism, inner beauty and honors cultures.
Previously, many Vietnamese contestants had tried their hand and the best result belonged to Doan Thu Thuy - 4th runner-up. This year, the contest took place in Cambodia and Thailand from February 24 to March 9, gathering 60 beauties from around the world.
