On July 21, in Ho Chi Minh City, a national workshop was held: “Reviewing the process of foreign affairs innovation from 1986 to present and orientation for the period 2025 - 2045”. The workshop was jointly organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Central Theoretical Council, and the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City.

The workshop was held within the framework of the National Project on "World situation in the period 2025-2045: Forecast and orientation of Vietnam's foreign policy".

The workshop took place with two main sessions: Reviewing the process of foreign affairs innovation from 1986 to present and orientation for the period 2025 - 2045; Vietnam's foreign affairs serving the country's socio-economic development from 1986 to present and orientation to 2030, vision 2045. From the in-depth research results of experts, ambassadors, and scientists shared at the workshop, it will contribute theoretically and practically to the orientation of the country's foreign policy in the coming period.

Speaking at the opening of the workshop, Permanent Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Minh Vu stated: innovation is an inevitable requirement to adapt to the ever-changing reality and realize the aspirations for development and advancement of the country and people.

The period from 1986 to present has witnessed the process of innovation of the Party in general and the foreign affairs sector in particular. Currently, the process of innovation in foreign affairs is going into depth and achieving many great achievements of historical significance. Foreign affairs continue to play a pioneering role in firmly protecting the independence, sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of the Fatherland; the international position and prestige of our country in the region and in the world are increasingly enhanced, contributing positively and responsibly to maintaining peace, cooperation, development and progress in the world. However, foreign affairs in recent times still have some limitations, some things have not been done, some things have not been done well.

Deputy Minister Nguyen Minh Vu said that in the coming years, the world and regional situation is forecasted to continue to have many rapid, complex and unpredictable changes. That new context poses new requirements in ensuring national and ethnic interests, as well as requiring innovations in implementing foreign affairs. Recognizing and evaluating the process of foreign affairs innovation of Vietnam in terms of thinking, policies and implementation practices from 1986 to present is of great significance in drawing lessons to proactively adapt to changes in the world in the coming period.

Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Phan Van Mai shared that in foreign affairs, the City pays great attention to diplomatic work serving economic development, creating a favorable environment, mobilizing resources, and promptly accessing new development trends in the world to apply to building socio-economic development orientations.

In fact, after the Covid-19 pandemic, there have been changes in consumer behavior, making it difficult for some industries to recover. The garment industry is facing many difficulties, while in some countries, this industry can penetrate large markets quite well. This is a reality for diplomatic work serving economic development. From there, we can quickly see the trends and movements of the world economy and contribute to the formation of national and local guidelines, strategies and policies, in order to catch up and compete in the international arena in the current context.

Nowadays, Vietnam’s international position is increasingly improved and enhanced. In recent times, Ho Chi Minh City has built relationships with international localities, participated in international forums and networks, hosted international events, received delegations of national leaders, etc.

Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Phan Van Mai said: The City wishes to receive comments from experts, scientists, and managers to best fulfill its national roles and tasks in the coming time; at the same time, to do better in foreign affairs to serve the development of the City, contributing to the overall development of the country. If assigned by the Central Government, the City is ready to be the first place to receive and implement the contents harvested from the workshop.
