General Secretary To Lam and a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation visited the ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta, Indonesia, marking a historic milestone in the relationship between Vietnam and ASEAN.

According to a special correspondent of the Vietnam News Agency, on March 10, General Secretary To Lam and his wife, along with a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation, visited the Secretariat of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Welcoming General Secretary To Lam and his wife and the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation were ASEAN Secretary General - Dr. Kao Kim Hourn and his wife, the ASEAN Secretariat leadership and Ambassadors and Heads of Delegations of member countries to ASEAN.

After the official welcoming ceremony, the General Secretary planted a souvenir tree at the Secretariat headquarters and presented a commemorative painting to be kept at the traditional gallery of the ASEAN Secretariat.

At a meeting with the ASEAN Secretary General and the Committee of Permanent Representatives to ASEAN (CPR), General Secretary To Lam affirmed that Vietnam has always attached importance to and contributed its utmost to the development of ASEAN over the past 30 years for the great goals of ASEAN.

From its lessons learned, Vietnam will continue to contribute to the common development of the ASEAN Community. Vietnam is very proud of ASEAN's contributions to the world and proud of ASEAN's strong development.

Agreeing with the major orientations of ASEAN discussed by Secretary General Kao Kim Hourn, the General Secretary said that ASEAN needs to continue to be a united and developed bloc because only with solidarity can ASEAN overcome difficulties and challenges in the current complex world context; bilateral cooperation between countries also needs to contribute to the common development and common strength of ASEAN.

The General Secretary highly appreciated the role of the ASEAN Secretariat in supporting the implementation of ASEAN cooperation areas, as well as between ASEAN and its partners, and appreciated the contributions of ASEAN Secretaries General over the periods.

The General Secretary also acknowledged the important role and contributions of Ambassadors and members of the Committee of Permanent Representatives to ASEAN (CPR) in promoting cooperation plans and programs to build the community, connect member countries and ASEAN partners, and contribute to improving the effectiveness of ASEAN's operations.

The General Secretary asked the CPR and the ASEAN Secretariat to continue to coordinate closely with member countries to realize the ASEAN Vision 2025 and successfully implement the ASEAN Community Vision 2045 and strategic plans.

ASEAN Secretary General Kao Kim Hourn welcomed and expressed his joy at receiving General Secretary To Lam, assessing the first visit of the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam to the ASEAN Secretariat as a historic milestone, demonstrating the important position of ASEAN in Vietnam's foreign policy, especially in the context that 2025 marks 30 years of Vietnam's accession to ASEAN (1995-2025) and a full decade of the formation of the ASEAN Community (2015-2025).

The ASEAN Secretary General emphasized that Vietnam has made many important contributions to ASEAN and the ASEAN Community and hopes that Vietnam will continue to play a leadership role in ASEAN.

On behalf of the Permanent Representative Committee to ASEAN, the Ambassador, Head of the Malaysian Delegation, pledged to continue promoting the solidarity of member countries, joining hands to build a strong ASEAN Community, contributing to peace, stability, security and development in the region.

General Secretary To Lam's visit to the ASEAN Secretariat this time strongly demonstrates Vietnam's strategic commitment to ASEAN, affirming that ASEAN continues to be a top priority in Vietnam's foreign policy in the new era./.
